The golden age of swing-wing aircraft is now long gone, pushed back into the scrapyard of history by computerized control systems, composite material airframes and immensely powerful engines. But before all this modernisation, the variable incidence wing was a way of achieving the same thing: good manouverability over a wide flying envelope, economic cruise performance and short take off and landing. The resulting aircraft were expensive to build, maintain and operate but they were also cool looking and designed right on the edge of what was technically possible during the sixties when most if not all of them were designed! This mission is a tribute to the engineers who dared to do the impossible and to the aircrew who flew those aircraft in war and peace!
