Decal set from Eduard designed for their brand new 1/72 Bf 110E. This release contains four attractive marking options from the early stages of WWII. One of the options will allow you to use the Dackelbauch conformal tank included with the kit.

Contents:

The decals and instructions are packed into a re sealble plastic bag. Options included with this release:
[A] Bf 110 E, 1./Erg. Zerst. Gr. Deblin-Irena, Poland, December, 1942. The nose was adorned with a large wolf’s head. This aircraft carries under wing drop tanks as well as extra oil tanks under the fuselage.
[B]Bf 110 E 7./ZG26, Mediterranean, 1941/42. This aircraft, serving in the Mediterranean, carried the 9.This aircraft features the Staffel emblem a penguin with an umbrella on a white background.
[C] Bf 110 E, W.Nr. 3866, Hans-Joachim Jabs, Staffelkapitän 6./ZG 76, Argos, 1941. This aircraft had a white gun cover and a red/white shark mouth, the standard marking of II./ZG 76 aircraft in 1941.
[D]Bf 110 E 'Dackelbauch', 5./NJG1, Deelen, Holland, Spring, 1941. NJG 1 used several aircraft equipped for long range flights with the large, under-fuselage tank housing 1050 litres of fuel and 106 litres of oil..
All aircraft with the exception of option [D] are finished RLM 65 under surfaces and RLM 02 and RLM 71 upper surfaces. Option [D] is finished black RLM 22 overall. Whereas the four marking options for the kit include only one with the longer fuselage, this release has three options with the longer fuselage and one with the shorter fuselage.

All the markings and art work are included as well as plenty of stencils. One omission from the sheet that is on the decals supplied with the kit is the rib numbers that run along the fuselage. A bit disappointing if you are thinking of using this release with the Eduard over trees. All the other stencils seem to be present on the sheet. The decals printed by Eduard look very good with excellent colour registration, density and definition. The carrier film is a little excessive on some decals and minimal on others. The code letters on the fuselage are all individual decals, presumably to keep the amount of carrier film to a minimum. Eduard has provided two styles of Balkenkreuz and they come entire or split in two. The “Wolfs head” emblem is split into two parts to give the decal a better chance to conform to the shape of the fuselage.

Conclusions:

I like this set a lot as it gives you a few more options using the under wing and the under fuselage Dackelbauch or the single oil tank that are supplied with the kit. A real pity the fuselage rib numbers are not included.
SUMMARY
Highs: Some excellent markings and the potential to use some of the under fuselage/wing stores not used for the kits marking options.
Lows: Lack of rib numbers.
Verdict: Highly recommended.
