Introduction

Resicast have added yet another variant to their range of flimsy fuel cans in the form of set 35.2347. This is the third option for modellers, both the other sets of flimsies and the bulk load flimsies have already been reviewed here on site and can be found via the link below.

The Set

The set comes packaged in the standard Resicast form for small items in a series of zip plastic bags. The larger bag holds the parts and a paper insert depicting a colour picture of the finished and painted cans and shows the product and manufacturers details.

The cans are cast in a light grey resin. Inside the main zip bag are two further zip bags with the parts. In the 1st you get 24 Damaged flimsies of two styles of can; Shell and MT 80.

The flimsies gained their name for being just that, flimsy and easily damaged so these are a handy addition for model makers.

In the 2nd bag are 10 wooden boxes. In my example there were 12 boxes, 10 closed and 2 open displaying the two flimsy cans inside. The boxes are nicely done with wood grain and strapping and the two open boxes show you what’s inside.

You will need a sharp razor saw to remove the pour plugs and normal precautions apply when working with resin.

Conclusion

This set will add that additional detail you may be looking for to any vehicle or diorama you may be planning. Combined with the other two sets available you now have an excellent choice of cans for any desert style diorama you might want build.

Flimsies were in use during the early part of WW 2, but some survived post war and I have seen pictures of these in the trenches in WWI, so there is a good time span in which you might use them.

I would have liked to have seen a couple of flattened cans for added variety but the set as it stands will provide another very useful accessory set to add additional realism to any build.

The inclusion of the boxes in which the cans came is a very welcome one and adds further variety to the set making these probably the best and varied option around at present.

Greying slightly, but young at heart. I've been teaching adults off and on for most of my life. Left the services in 85 and first started modelling in about 87 for a few years. Then I had a long spell when I didn't build anything (too busy) and really just got started again during the summer of ...
