This is probably the coolest group build project yet...at least for me. I'm just itching to dig into the shelved kits!
Hmmm... problem is, which one to do? All of em? LOL!

I'll be on with a scratchbuilt Fiat AR59 (100% scratchbuilt) with a 106mm recoiless gun (from Dragon).

Hellcat, in my view it isn't and it is. It isn't because the design specs were not for a TD but for artillery support to infantry. It is because it was mainly used as a TD, due to the fact that we had no attacking infantry troops to support... If you like an "official" italian thank destroyer was the Semovente 47/32 on L6 hull.

Educate me Fabio, what does this vehicle look like? Jeep, tracked?

I'm looking at the Ontos or the SPAT.

Would the SturmGeshutz's with the 75mm L/48 gun qualify as a tank destroyer? I know when the StuG's first came out they were supporting artillery But in 1942 they were armed with a longer gun to destroy tanks

Thanks Scoccia. Kind of a bummer as I already have the Semovente M40-75/18 SPG, and little funds for another kit right now.

Go for it Hellcat, since this is an informal build, the rules are a bit looser.

I think it should qualify as a tank destoryer. The main reason it changed to L/48 was to counter the tanks.

Would this also include the JagdPanzer IV, L70(A), L70(V) and L48?

Ron,

I would vote for yes on the Jagdpanzers as the name says it all: "Hunting Tank."

Now I need to figure out what I will build:

Hornisse
Hetzer
SU-100
Ferdinand
M10
etc.

Oh God there are too many choices. I think I am going to go to bed now as my head is beginning to hurt. #:-)

Hey Hellcat,
If you can find documentation of a unit that had to use its vehicles as anti armor, just put those markings on your vehicle.I can bet just before Italy left the axis, much of their fighting was defensive,so many support guns had to learn direct fire in a hurry.

Just thinking out loud about a Su-25 "Frogfoot" I'll have to check and see which version, if any, would be appropriate here. (Just thought I'd come up with something a bit different)
