Looked around but could not find a quick answer. What are the general rules of a campaign. Can you use a kit you have started but have not finished? Do you have to show in progress photos or only when done ( I ask this because I am not sure how to post photos)? And how do you join a campaign, do you post that you are joining when the campaign start or what?

Those kind of rules can vary from campaign to campaign. I think most of the campaigns to-date have not required members to post in-progress photos. It's just encouraged. You can join a campaign by simply clicking on the enlistment button on the campaigns homepage (see link at left).

Eric (Hello - I hope the monthly SVSM meetings are still interesting)

Campaigns and Group Builds are similar. Where the Campaign differs is in setting up parameters and specifics for modelers to follow. The Honor System is always in place, and though you could participate in a Campaign with a model that you might have started on but not made much progress with - it is good form to tell your fellow participants up front. It's okay because everyone is about having fun. The idea, though, is for everyone to start out modeling the subjects together, share what they run into, and finish together.

Progress Photos and the Completion Photo is required in the Campaign format - for awarding a Campaign Ribbon or other such award. Most of the guys take digital photos and send them to us (Armorama Editors) for uploading or linking to threads. We can handle traditional photos too - Armorama does have a mailing address. The site "lives" in the Fresno area. Any of the Editors can assist you in posting material up on site.

Joining a Campaign or Group Build is easy! When the Campaign goes "official" (meaning a Campaign Folder is created in the Campaign Section of the site - see the Main Menu on the left side of the screen) you can create a Journal there that lists your modeling activities.

Group Builds are similar - but they do not get Folders created in the Campaign Section. They are a little longer in time allowed to model subjects than Campaigns. They also tend to be a bit wilder and broad. You "join" by jumping into the threads that the Group Build was created in - and just "go for it"! I will begin listing the big Group Builds into the Campaign Docket because they attract a lot of participation from members on-site - like the Tank Destroyer Group Build. That one could turn out quite a few models in the end. To mark your progress and completion, photos are linked into thread postings. Modelers either use their own site, Armorama's satellite site at MSN.com, or a photohosting site (with varying degrees of success).

Hope this helps muddy the waters a bit...
