Time for Reggies regular fortnightly BUMP guys, still only 11 enlisted. I'm sure there are several (read: thousands) P-47 kits bunkered down out there just waiting for the opportunity to see daylight and unleash the THUNDER !

Anybody else found some reference pics to feed the inspiration monster ?

Cheers, D

Jesper, those are all from a great French web site dedicated to the 405th FG

http://wing.chez-alice.fr/USAAF/405th_FG/405th_FG.html

Lots of nose art and the history of each pilot, although there are a few gaps mainly with the 511th FS

And another 2 weeks have come and gone. We are a month away from starting up and still sitting on 11 enlisted. I'm sure there must be gazillions of Thunderbolts tucked away in stashes all over the world. Let's drag a few out and let them see the light of day !

Only a couple of weeks until we get started once again everybody, time to get the kits to the front of the stash and clear the workbench (yeah right, good luck with THAT !) in preparation for the most important Group Build of 2012 - "Bolt From The Blue !"

Has everybody got their subject matter finalised ? If so, post up some info or pics and get some more interest going here !

Here's one of my favorite pics, gotta love the Cletrac, and the "smiley" faces on the bombs !

Yeah, I can see the stack from here in Melbourne ! I sneak in and steal one every 6 months for the SIG group builds and he doesn't even notice one is missing

Quiet now, don't tell anybody please.

Ok, since I never finished my D-30 for the last GB, I'll give this one a shot. I'm in, something 48th Tamiya, more than likely MTO, probably Lt. Ray Knight's "Oh Johnnie" in correct colors. I've got a few birds to build yet, and I'd assigned one as Knight's airplane already. I had two painting disasters with my D-28 and D-30 that I'm just now recovering from and I'm thinking a partially OD bubbletop would be a welcome break!

Allrighty then, it's 9am on April 1, 2012, in the Great Southern Land, and I've almost finished celebrating surviving 45 years without doing too much damage to myself or those around me, so I reckon we should get this Group Build underway.
Since we're only a couple of pages in, and we have some great references here, I think we should just carry on with this thread rather than create a new one.

So I declare the 2012 P-47 SIG Group Build "Bolt from the Blue" officially open for business ! Crack open those kits and have at it folks !

The all-important enlistment page with the rules and regs can be found HERE , and I will post a link to the Gallery once it is up and running.

As always, good luck and everybody have fun with your build, and please post lots of progress pics here to keep the creative juices flowing.

Cheers, D

HI Everyone
After much deliberation, have decided on -

P47D-30 "Eight Nifties" 510th FS, 405th FG
Tamiya P47M Kit as base
Ultracast Wheels & Seat
Kits World decals (first time used)
Found a pic of her carrying 3 x 500lb bombs, a typical loadout for 405th aircraft heavily involved in ground attack missions close to frontline.
A few pics attached of the bits I need -

Will be starting this week all going well.

Happy Modelling!

One has to love that nose art, Darren.

I am clearing out some stuff from my work bench and then getting started in a months time.

Maybe we should do a couple of banners for this campaign to spread the word? I got a feeling people do not know of the campaign...

Oh man, I had no idea someone did decals for "Eight Nifties"!!!

I'm just getting my workshop set back up (just moved from Maryland to Oklahoma) so I'm in, but delayed. I'm in with Ray Knight's D-25 and may expand to include a 365th FS D-30 too.

I have not used Kits World decals before, appreciate any feedback that is available.
They have done a good job on the artwork, though their instructions are questionable based on references I have.
Thanks

Hi Darren.

I've used Kitsworld decals a couple of times and they have worked well, no problems with the performance... BTW, are there 2 of you, or did you change your callsign ?

Thanks for volunteering Jesper !
Seriously, you have put out some great banners, I'd be really grateful if you worked your magic on one for us here mate.

Well,

Darren has just raised the bar "Eight Nifties" is not a marking I have seen before and the colorings look great on that one.

Im still trying to work out what build I will do. I will decide and post later today.

I prefer the workhorse look of the Razorback, and the more I looked at this pic . . . . .

. . . . the more I like "Hun Hunter XIV" so I went shopping and found THIS to go with an old Monogram kit that I picked up from a swap meet for $10 without decals.

Decision made, now lets destroy some sprues !

Ok, I spent about an hour trauling through all me deals and had chosen a few for the shortlist, just went back over this thread and Jesper is doing Snortin bull so ill strick that of the list, Damian said he might do Screaming Red Ass Commander so that leaves me with:

Balls Out, Chow Hound or Ski-U-Mah II from the 405th or Ole Cock from the 56th . All are pretty popular but they are for a reason, they all look cool and I want all of them on my self one day so why not build one now. Just gotta choose which one....

Hey Mark, you can put "Screaming Red Ass Commander" back on the list of possibilities. As per my last post I'm going to do "Hun Hunter XIV."

Sorry to add to your dilemna

Great progress Darren, you'll be done in no time !

My boys woke up early thismorning so there was no chance of a sleep-in for me. I put the TV on for them and sat at the table for an hour or so, and got all of the parts trimmed off the sprues and cleaned up, and set to wok on the sub-assemblies. Nothing pic-worthy just yet, but I'm glad to be underway.

I have a rather special P-47M to finish before I start on my entry, which as usual is still undecided,,hahaha.

Manage to walk past the bench a couple of times over the last week and thats about it, but I'm determined to get the Klear coats on over the decals today and that will bring me one step closer to finishing that one and starting on this
