Hi Steph,
nice link there I have 2 questions and would be very happy if you or anyone else can answer them:

Is this a Panzer 2 gun mantlet?

What turret is this? I thought something from the BT series , but none seem to match up

Paul

Hello Paul,
I think the first one is from a Pz 2. Probley from a B/C version. The 2nd one is from the BT series, I think the gun is a 57mm an it is a BT-2/3 or command vehicle. It looks like there is a radio antenna to the right side of the turret.
I will check my books and see if I can get a positive check on them if you like.
Cheers,
Bruce

Hi Bruce,
that would be very cool if you could do that.

Hi Steph,
thanks for another interesting link, shouldn´t be any problems now for those who are still undecided.

Cheers Paul

Hi there, here´s something to help some of you decide what to build:
http://www.beute.narod.ru/

Happy reading.
Paul

Interesting, but I've been thinking....maybe a Finnish captured T-34? It's unlikely I'll do anything else in Finnish markings so this should add some variety to my models.

For those of you who might not know about the Finnish campaign it might be interesting to look up.

Hello Paul,
The First one is a Pz 2 B for sure. It looks like it was removed and put on another vehicle for ground support.
The second one is a BT Command Vehicle with the command radio in it. It had a 57mm gun with a coaxial MG. I am not sure what it is mounted on. Do you have a better photo for me to look at? I think I could get you more info with better photo's.
I hope this helps,
Cheers,
Bruce

Welcome Bob, take your pick mate, there´s plenty of links
flying around here at the moment that are all very useful.

Hello Bruce,
thanks mate, there´s a fullish picture about a third of the way down on the first page of Steph´s link. It´s an early SdKfz 251, just don´t know if it´s an A, B or C.

Hello Paul,
It looks like they put a BT Command on a "C". The 57mm could take out a T-34 at 800 meters with it's AT rounds. The AT Rounds had a Tungsten core and a very, very early type of Sabot Rounds with it. The Germans never was able to reproduce the Sabot round and the Russians did not take the idea further along to improve it or even make any more when they ran out of them.
Remember they where fighting for their lives and did not devote a lot of money or people or time for unproven weapons.
I found that they had about 2500 crude Sabot rounds and most where captured by the Germans early in the invasion.
I hope this will help you out. If I can give you more Info, Please let me know My Librarians are bored. They have very little work to do besides getting books for me.
Cheers,
Bruce

@ John (jkb_sprint): a warm welcome to you to my friend.
Any ideas yet, and please no speed building there, I´m afraid I couldn´t organise any celestial virgins to be won on this one
You´ll just have to make do with the ribbon, when I get it sorted

@ Bruce: nice information, thanks. I´ll PM you a foto I found on the net, and then we can see what your librarians come up with

Thanks a lot Paul!
Well i'm for sure going to build Italeri's Crusader III under DAK "administration" with the 15th Panzer. I'm also thinking about a M14/41 used by the 8th army again in N. Africa but still thinking about the second one. I still lack photos on the Crusader though. The use of the specific tank is known and in Von Essebeck's book they are mentioned too. But i still need to a lot more to find what i need.

Now as for the main "problem" in this campaign, the prize, look at this guy's reaction when he read your "statement".

cool answer John
The next foto has nothing to do with this campaign, but I really need an answer from our "librarian guru" Bruce if this existed or not:

Bruce, the answer you give will make the final decision
on if I make my next campaign proposal or not

Hello Paul,
Give me a few days. I am going to print it out on a very high resolution printer and give it to them. At first glance it looks like a fake. But I am not sure. It could be a captured Dutch Vehicle?.

Paul;

I'll jump into this one - being as the start line is way out there in June 2013!

I have several possibilities on-hand - it will be something ex-British, ex-French, or ex-Russian in "German service".

"Ready "stolen/captured" kits" on the shelf...

MiniArt Russian T-70 in German service?
Dragon T34-76 " " "
Mirage Renault UE converted to "Stuka zu Fuss"
Mirage Lorraine carrier coverted to "Stuka zu Fuss"?
Bronco Hotchkiss H-37/39 with rockets

What about those Lorraine or Hotchkiss-based "Marder" conversions (Bronco, Mirage and trumpeter all have some of this sort kitted)? Would any of those count for this?

A project I wanted to build for "under a different flag" but could not get started in time was the later-war German Luftwaffe conversion of British Universal carriers into airfield flak-vehicles by mounting 2cm flak 38... this one still looms in my head!

Hi Bob, and a warm welcome to you.
To answer your question about the Lorraines and Hotchkiss
Marders, yes sure. But remember that there´s Jeffs Marder campaign starting on the 1st of Jan.

Hello Paul,
With a 68% probability the vehicle is a SdKfz 247. That is a Armored Staff Car using a heavy 4x4 car chassis. It was issued to Commanders of Recon Battalions of Panzer and Panzergeennadiers Divisions.
The Turret is another problem. It looks like a Pz 2, But the gun lay out is wrong. Also the figures do not natch up to the photo. The one on the Right is in G.I. Equipment and so is the one behind him. The one on the left is in German Equipment. The other people in the photo are in civilian clothes. I think that this photo is from a movie set IE: A Bridge to Far, Kelly's Heroes, Etc. It looks like it came from the 70's.
Just My and the librarians thoughts,If you want we will keep digging,
Hope this helps,
Cheers,
Bruce

Hi Bruce,
so it ´s definatly not a SdKfz234 with Pz2 Luchs turret?
Shame because that could of been the beginning of another campaign, like "irregular Recon" or such
If you find anything else, please let me know

Hello Paul,
I will give the Photo to my "secret weapon". I am going to scan the photo and let my super computer have it. It is a old cray super computer from the early 90's and it works great. It has all the info I have on WW2 Axis/Allis Equipment/Armour/Troops/Divisions/Aircraft/ETC in it's banks. I will let you know what it says.(It also balances my check book)
I will also put all of the Liberians going over all of the books again to see if we missed anything. I will also call a few friends in Europe and send them the photo and see if they have any idea about it and check all of their books and contacts.
I will also check on the Equipment list and photo's used for War Movies in the '70's and see if any match you photo.
Can you think of anything I missed? If so let me know.
Cheers,
Bruce

Hello Paul,
I will also let the computer send inquirers to other museums like The Imperial War Museum, The National Archives, the War Museums in Europe and see if it can find any thing out from them.

Other then that, I am out of ideas. Does anyone any any ides I have not thought of? Please let me know.

This will take a few days/weeks?
Cheers.

Really wanted to do one (or both if I'm lucky!) of the Meng A-39's or the DML T-28 Super Heavy but Cybermodeler's review said something about the extra track sponsons are more than a bit inaccurate. At least there's the Meng! Guess I could go with their Meinerammer too!

Hi Christopher,
I think you´ve hit the wrong campaign with your comment on the A39 and T28 .

I bet you wanted the Super Heavy campaign

Hi Jeff,
welcome to the "pirate" campaign .
There are 3 reasons for the late start date:
1. There´s a hell of a lot going on between now and spring
next year.
2. I would like to give everyone enough time to find a
topic, do some reserch on it and show that (if you wish),
before the start date.
3. I still hope my wish of an SdKfz 233 in plastic and
1/35 will, by then, be reality
4. As this is my first campaign, as campaign leader, I
still need to learn how to do Banners and Awards

Banners and Awards... I believe there is a thread on that but usually there are those that volunteer to help out. If you ask!
