Hi All
This is the first of two builds for this campaign.
As a kid I lived near Duxford and Debden airfields so any AC with markings from Squadrons based at these fields will always be my first choice!

here is my entry:

On reflection though I might not use the after market decals as the kit is not the greatest (really needs resin interior / wheel bays dont get me started on the size of the seat) as have not got time or funds for that rather than wasting the after market decals Im going to do this I think ass OOB

Unless I get hit on the head by a falling star, this will be an OOB build. Not saying I'm going to use the kit decals, but if I do, it will be the one with the fancy bee striped tail feathers.

This will be 5 projects on the bench. I'm thankful we have lots of time. Winter just happens to be my peak build time, so I'd better get busy and have some paint ready before summer.

Glad to see all the entries rooling in for this one. Im not sure when Ill start building yet, Ive got two builds in progress and an additional one yet to be decided! Not sure how I did this to myself, but Im trying to find a way to build them roughly parrallel so i can save time on mixing common colors and other such tasks. Regardless I got all my bits together and decided to take the pic and get this part done and out of the way. Im sure I could have bought the tamiya kit and been better off and cheaper, but this looks like fun to me!

Great to see what kits we have to look forward to in this Group Build, thanks for posting up everybody. As for me, I'm building the same kit as Ben, just in a different box !

I managed a little bit of time last night and got started on some sub-assemblies, nothing worth showing just yet.

Those of you who have joined in on my Campaigns and Group Builds in the past will know that I like to maintain a "Roll Call/Build Status" post to provide a quick reference snapshot of proceedings. I have put this in the first post on Page 3 of this thread, the official start post, so please sneak up and take a look and let me know if I have anything wrong in the info there.

Cheers, D

You and me both fella, I've been eyeing this kit off on the LHS shelves for a while now. It will be great to see how it builds up in the hands of a mad Queenslander !

Damian, you can update your list. This is my build for the campaign:

I will build LM-E "Hawkeye" flown by Lt. Thaddeus Buszko, 62. FS, 56. FG. I'll start in a few days, as my "Gabelschwanzteufel" (Fork Tail Devil) sees already the end of the assembly line.
Hmm, btw, here we have the P-47 Heaven but were is the P-38 Heaven ..... ?

Happy modelling!

Updated, thanks Torsten. Very nice choice of markings as well, I'm fairly certain that a 56th FG aircraft will be popular around these parts

I have prepped a few parts for paint, and hopefully will get some time this week after work to get the airbrush fired up.

Cheers, D

Great job Darren, your Thunderbolt turned out awesome! I have yet to attempt an NMF finish, I have most of the stuff on hand but just havent taken the leap. Currently my excuse is that its winter and I cant properly ventilate for alclad without turning my work area into an ice box... Spring is coming though!

Progress! I finally got this Jug off the ground. Work has almost naturally began in the front office where Im using the true details resin cockpit, which is a little work of art itself and a bargain for the less than $5 I paid for it. Ive only worked with one resin cockpit before and it resides with the rest of the barely started kit on the shelf, so this could end up being my first resin pit! So i got her separated from the casting block and a coat of interior green. This is the point where someone chimes in that it should be DDG or BG, which if it is please do say so. I did just enough research to find confusion, so I picked interior green

Note: the headrest is a kit part and not part of the resin kit, there is a gem of a gunsight though!

Um, the experts should chime in, but I think it's dull dark green.

Great to see some progress here guys. Darren, stunning job as always, well done mate!
Mike, I always use interior green for the cockpits, once you do the detail painting and throw on a couple of washes it tones down beautifully.

The more colour photos I see of unrestored P-47 cockpits, the less evidence I see of them being painted dark dull green
I have my paint masks for the Hasegawa P-47 and also for my Tamiya Razorback.
Next day off is scheduled for a week on Sunday so maybe I will get something done
Been more than a little busy working on a book recently

One could also ask why they would paint it dull dark green when the green or yellow zinc chromate was more than readily available.

Don't forget it is his model that he paid for and he can paint it whatever colour he wants..

The gentleman did some research, found confusion and asked for some clarification on a much debated subject. I offered some advice based on my research and thats all. Nobody is trying to tell anybody what colour to paint a model just because it suits them.
