Hey modelers,

Is this the worst? I've spent ten years (off and on) working on one diorama. Big deal? It doesn't fit through my hobby room door! So, I will have to tip it almost 90 degrees to get it out, if I ever finish it, to show. All the epoxy and Super Glue in the world won't keep something from falling off and getting more "battle damage" than I can explain away.

Discovered this one this weekend (It didn't occur while modelling, but it could have):
The blade on your Leatherman is SHARP - be very careful when closing it with one hand. The tip of your thumb should be round, not flat.

Another one that I rediscover about once a week:
Blisters on your hands do not react well to acetone, isopropyl, meths, thinners or any other form of weird hobby-related chemical

Cheers

Ola People

Always be on the lookout for several events happening at one time. I was once the victim of a joint operation of my X-acto and my bottle of CA glue. As the knife I just put down started to roll towards me (some weird nature rule that says you attract scary sharp objects instead of rejecting them) as I was calculating the trajectory of my X-acto I was clearing more or less the way so it won`t hit any parts that were laying around not seeing I tipped over my bottle of CA glue wich also started rolling towards me. Ok I bulletdodged the knife by simply moving my right leg a bit to the right but didn`t notice the bottle of CA glue (wich was still open) landed on my leg. Surprisingly the thing didn`t fall off but stood where it landed and starting to empty (this event happened when I picked up my knife. When I laid the knife back on the bench I found the bottle of CA glue that happily had spread a nice puddle of CA glue (10cm) on my leg securing my trousers to it
To make a story short I saw only one way to get it off and till day of today the whole Neighbourhood remembers a scream so loud it would scare away dragons and demons of pain. Luckily it was only my leg knowing there were some more valuable parts in the same area

So my message to all of you beware of the Joint Conspiracies of your tools

Happened to me yesterday. Assist anyone trying to hold your unfinished T-72 or else they might drop it.

I dunno if this is caused my modeling but yesterday after spray painting my kit and inhaling the fumes, my whole body ached and I feel very heavy with a headache and a dizzy mind.

The one time you open a bottle of stain and forget to do it on the opposite side of the room where your model is, then... you can fill in the rest, it's too painful for me.

Don't leave your half finish model on the bed if your girlfriend is coming over.

Never buy individual track links when you can't get it to work with your Dragon M1A1HA Now I'm off to find an alternative rubber track links for it.

When you are using your Dremel as a sander then remember to use safety glasses, damn those plastic pieces sting in your eyes

Also when using your Dremel with a circular saw, whatever you do .... Never DROP it in your lap while running at max rpm.

If you do, dan thank god if everything still works, I do every day

Be careful using .5 pi vise. It can break easily.

Ignore a ringing telephone when you are working with plaster or epoxy!

Don't dip your brush in your coffee. Keep the coffee well away from the thinners pot and best to put them both in disimilar vessels.
Don't work on photo-etch parts in bare feet....if you drop a tiny piece of brass on the carpet...ouch. :-)

Don't ever try to catch an Xacto with your legs. This will be the result:

This only works for pieces of PE and plastic, not blades.

Happy modelling

Ok......here's one.....
When you drop a piece of photo etch, that has glue on it, onto the floor......take a look in the mirror before you spend and hour scanning the floor and then 7 hours at work.. You may be suprised to see that your pants have got a new friend.

I learned not to fear the X-acto wounds, only the bleeding. I got one and did not feel anything. I saw the blood spill everywhere and it was just surreal. The worst part was the massive cleanup of the blood and the light headedness from seeing all the blood flow out. The thing is, that was just a nick on the finger tip

I've recently discovered that after a productive evening at the work desk, it is not appealing to one's spouse to come to bed smelling like mineral spirits... Even if it was my intent to remove any trace of paint from my hands, it only reminds my wife that I pretty much ignored her all evening.... modeling was so much simpler when I was young and single! The good ole days! (Except of course I had no money back then and couldn't really afford any of this... Catch 22, I guess!)

This one didnt happen to me but my brother when he was about. 13 yrs. old. He had spray painted a model car. He decided he didnt like how it looked. So he decided to strip it with Carb cleaner. Leaning over a metal trash can, spraying away. Was almost dark. Dropped a part in the trash can. Being young and not so smart at the moment, lit a match and leaned in looking for part. BOOM, FIRE and SMOKE Blew him backwards threw the air about ten feet. No eyelashes. no eyebrows. singed the whole top of his head. His arms looked like candle wax. Luckily no permanent damage or scars. He never worked on models again. Yes it is a true story.

After accidentally flipping the bottlecap with the puddle of CA onto the leg of a pair of Dockers work/dress pants, DO NOT scrape at the stain/puddle with a fingernail.

You will glue the pants to your leg.

You will not know it until you drop trou for the call of nature or to shower at the end of the evening.

When removing said pants a quarter-sized portion of your leg hair and skin will remain with the pants.

This will hurt

A LOT!

How about
dont leave the shop unlocked when going to the hospital for surgery
a vandal might destroy every thing that you have built
