Started a couple of this 1/4 scale armored alien bust today. So far I just hollowed out behind the clear eye inserts so that I can light it up.

Very nice work! The bust looks exceptionally well-detailed and cast.

Thanks Peter!

More progress. Applied a rough texture to parts of one of the busts to help my eventual organically grown insect-like components look, primed, and started painting. Details and steps with what paints I used on my blog here: http://fichtenfoo.net/blog/tag/the-centurion/

Latest progress. Just one color, mottled on over hours of work, but changes sooo much!

This looks very nice Michael, I like what you're doing with the colour scheme it's something different. I'll keep watching.

Can you tell me when the 2nd edition of the Rook will be ready?

Thanks, I'll keep an eye on your site.

Back on topic, the more I look at the paint the more I notice things, this is very good and yes it does look insect like.
Can I ask how you did this?

Thanks! It's all fine airbrush work. I use an Iwata HP-BH and a Badger Renegade Chrome which are both capable (with the right mix of paint, thinner and air pressure) of doing very fine lines. You start off with a base coat then do fine-liked figure-eights, scribbles, etc... all overlapping. These thin lines, using different thin/clear layers of color build up making them appear darker in some places and mottled. This takes practice of course so get some paper plastic eggs or something and have at it!
