Well the paint is going on - pre shading + bleaching + post shading. I must say I do like this Mr. Color paint. Its a bit of drawn out process, but i think its paying divident.

Have a look and tell me what you think - personally I think it is a huge step up from a uniform finish.

Thanks for looking!

Aaaahhh, summer draws nearer, the garage warms up, so work begins again.....

This is turning out to be quite a modular build which is interesting in its own way.

The cockpit is nearing completion:

The pilot is painted.

The cockpit is painted.

The HUD is not shown in place, but they are fitted (I hope) as the cockpit is buttoned up and pre-coated and I've done some more PE bits on the undercarriage.

Thanks for watching

This is becoming a little nerve wracking as I haven't built a plane kit in 30yrs and not nearly as complex as this Valkyrie!

Anyway, forwards and onwards we go!

I have started prepping and building the Valkyrie in portions and the PE bits are ever so small if not quite impressive. Below are images of the HUD mount and air brake bracket.

I've done some work on the cockpit, upper fuselage with PE antenna, gun turret and gun pod.
During this process I have decided to build the J variant of the Valkyrie.
Another first for me is that I'll be using Mr Color paints on this kit which will be a departure from my usual Revell and Tamiya approach.

Quoted Text

I think I'll have it on modern carrier deck base to simulate it taking off from the SDF-1 out in space....or something like that.

Check YouTube; there should be some videos that have the opening animation for the first-season Macross episodes; if I remember correctly, one of the clips in the opening shows flight deck crew on what I expect is the *Daedalus* spotting a Valkyrie on one of the catapults and launching it. It's been a long time since I've watched it, but my memory is that the procedure ran very close to Navy carrier ops; if you haven't already settled on a layout, it might give you some ideas.

Well, I'm back with another build!

This time it has wings and it is from one of my favourite animated sci-fi series, Robotech or also known as the Macross Saga/Series. These fighter jets transform (VF-1 Valkyrie Vermilion Squadron)in pilot controlled battle droids, how cool is that - what more can you ask for?
Unfortunately this kit is only of the fighter jet variant, but its a mega cool kit in its own right as it is in 1/48 scale and is made by Hasegawa. I purchased some extra PE bits for more detail. I think I'll have it on modern carrier deck base to simulate it taking off from the SDF-1 out in space....or something like that.

I have a 1/72 scale variant in the battle droid configuration, but this is for a later date and a mega 1/48 Super Strike Valkyrie, which too is for a later date.

Thanks for taking the time to watch and share this with me.
