I've got a case of dueling references. I'm building the Academy 1/72 P-47D Razorback. The instructions call for a silver cowl ring and alternating cowl flaps to be painted silver on an OD/NG fuselage. Dana Bell's Air Force colors only addressed a dark band on NMF aircraft. I doubt that vintage photos would show silver vs. white, I've never noticed and A/C with silver cowls vs plenty of white rings.

Anybody have a good idea, or photos?

There's a color pic here: http://www.americanairmuseum.com/unit/313

Seems to be natural metal with an OD band.

Here's a well crafted model of "Magic Carpet" of the 366th FG.
