Hi Si,

This build is looking great! I just picked up that model this last week and am thinking of the Pontos set as well. I'll keep your build as a favorite while I build it!

Cheers

Thanks Mike,

Appreciate you looking in and thank you for your kind comment. The Pontos set is good, but being their first it is a bit less complete than their more recent releases, and the instructions leave a bit to be desired, but it is still good value for what you get, but a few references wouldn't go amiss,

Good luck with your build mate.

Cheers

Si

That compass platform looks great with all those Northstar additions, Si

Thanks Russ,

They were a "labour of love" some of the etch is verging on the microscopic. but resin is excellent.

Particularly on the capital ships, the open compass platforms of that period were quite busy. few details still to add, small bulwark around the ladder opening, ladders down the signal platform and some voicepipes and railings down there.

Then I can get on with boats, pompoms and the rest of the stuff.

Cheers

Thanks Jan,

She is coming along. The North star bridge gear is testing my eyesight, but I found out from my Bismarck build the difference get the bridge detail right makes a lot of difference.

Thanks for looking in.

Hi Si,

just catching up here and with your other projects.

Beautiful work, mate! This kit and the Pontos set makes me really want to get it out of my stash - but something to do before that will happen. But it's really fun to watch your progress on the beautiful old Lady!

Cheers,
Jan

SI,

That platform really is a nice improvement from the supplied in the kit.

Sure is Mark,

Etch is so much better for structures like this, really adds finesse to the whole thing

Thanks for looking in.

Nice work Simon! I can imagine these splinter shields are no fun eh?

Thank you Thomaa,

The bending was a little tricky around the two curved sections. A little file work & a touch up will hide the worst of it. But then that in a way is the fun of our great hobby.

Thanks for looking in and your kind comment.

Next job,

The 4" gun positions.

The White Ensign splinter shields. One straight off the fret, one folded.

a lesson in how not to do it, all the splinter shielding down on the port side. If you leave the two inner sections off, it is much easier to get the gun mounts in.

The gun mounts assembled and with a top coat of paint on.

And the guns fitted.

Needs a little tidying up yet.

More tomorrow /Monday

This weekend's progress,

The funnel given a coat of light grey.

the mid grey on and the funnel interior painted black.

The kit funnel cap.

Destruction done.

I used the White Ensign etched funnel cap as it matched the drawings better than the Pontos offering.

The funnel cap and searchlights fitted, and the funnel fixed down.

Four sights from the North star set with their seats fitted.

With a little trimming the WEM base for the 4" splinter shielding fitted the space in the Pontos deck perfectly, a testament to the accuracy of both.

More soon.

Cheers

Si

Hi Rory, that is because that bit came from the WEM set, not the Pontos set. I am not sure if it is accurate, but it covers the empty cavern of the funnel very nicely.

It all becomes clear. It really looks good.

Little bit of progress today.

All platforms fitted to the funnel, railings on the upper level need a tweak yet, the searchlight supports have been fixed at the correct height.

Cheers

I wonder if they have changed the Pontos Kit. I don't recall the bit you have inside the funnel in my PE set. Even looking at the instructions on their website I don't see it (http://pontosmodel.com/html/35001f1.html) hmmmmm...

Yup, they do come in handy for that, and for keeping those lumps of blue tack the right way up, to allow work on small awkward bits of resin/ etch etc.

Thanks for looking in.
