I feel your pain Ernst. You can't fix stupid.

Thanks man, I am over the irritation, though I admit it took a few days. To tell the truth I did not care about the lost monetary investment nearly as much as I did about the lost time I put into the build. On the plus side, I am making a few improvements on build 2.0 in both technique and as shown by the new attachment points better scratch building. So it was not a total loss, given the experience gained. Thank you for your thoughts again.

A little progress on the VK3001

Hull top…

Hull tub…

Dry fitted, not yet glued together…

I changed the MG34 for an ABER one…

And endless wheels…

Cheers

Matthew,

Nice progress, very clean build. That Aber barrel is a nice touch.

Eman - the color modulation on your build is simply outstanding!

I am mission complete with the Wildcat build. Following are several posts of the finished model. I bought a new macro lens a few weeks ago and used it for the first time seriously to take some of the shots; boy does it bring things up close and personal - in all their glory, and ugliness to boot. Having said that, I really like the lens and will enjoy getting to learn how to use it better.

The first set of shots is the base for the model. I painted it a teak color, then sprayed it a blue to resemble the blue stain the USN used for flight decks during WWII. I then scuffed and scratched the surface randomly to show a bit of wear and tear. The metal sections were sprayed black and than given a rub down with a graphite pencil. Finally, I splattered a few oil and lub stains on the deck. Over all, I am pleased with the finished product.

Next up are some medium distance shots with the model and figure posed on the base. Unless you guys want to see some close up photos of the build, I'll stop posting photos so as not to "bomb" the forum.

This has been a great group build and I intend to continue to follow along and enjoy the great models being built here.

Ernest, nice wildcat. I gave up on planes - too tricky and no chance to cover up goof ups with mud...

Thanks for the encouragement, Mark.

I have a weee bit more progress to report…

Have made a start on the heavy lifting. I can’t stand rubber/vinyl tracks so am going with the MasterClub white metal tracks for the Sturer Emil (also the VK3001) instead. This is where I’m at after, oooooh about 2 hours….

And this is the pile that I face…

Happy days!

At least the tracks will meet and the necessary sag will be there.

cheers

Matthew

Ernest,

Sweet looking Wildcat. The paint work is wonderful on both the plane and pilot. Nice job.

That's a beautiful 'cat. You guys are starting to get me interested, in going back to wingy-things.

Ernest,

Truly stunning work! I hope you enter that Wildcat in some competition or show, it deserves an award.

Progress has been pretty slow on the NBCRV. I got the base coat down, and experimented with color modulation. I adding rubber black to the NATO Green for the undercarriage and some of the recesses. For the high areas I mixed in a little buff and heavily diluted it. I think it might be hard to see the tonal variations in the pictures.

Ernest, magnificent work on your Wildcat, pilot, and carrier base. Stunning!
Lapman, the E-50 is fantastic. Love that geometric camouflage paint schrme.
Shawn, your NBC Stryker looks great. 1st coat of paint must be difficult with all that surface detail? Keep up the good work.
Matthew, Wow, got to love the realistic appearance of those metal tracks. Lots of tedious work....good job.

Thank you Matthew! Your build is progressing nicely. The tracks look great, but I would have to construct them in stages as it looks like a tedious job.

Mark, Matt and Shawn - thank you very much for the nice words guys! Shawn, I am not sure any of the stuff I build would be competitive, but thank you again for your encouragement.

Hey all Here's my progress with the AS-90. Fresh out of field exercises in the mud. Not too happy with the build but at least it's done/nearly finished. Just debating whether to paint the tools or leave them with camo paint on
