Here we go, campaign starts tomorrow (UK time) please post your start up / open status pictures here. If you wish to post your on a separate blog that is fine, but I would ask if you could also keep this thread updated.

Might be a slight delay on my opening shots as I having a problem with my camera battery and may have to source a replacement.

Good luck to all shipmates in this campaign.

Cheers

Problem with my camera's powerpack fixed, not sure how, but finally decided to charge.

Here we go. USS Intrepid 1944 built from the Trumpeter Yorktown (CV10) and the pontos upgrade, with a few extra aircraft.

Datestamp

The kit.

the upgrade

the airwing, won't be totally correct, but it is what I could source. Most of it will be hanger so hopefully it will not notice too much.

The Hull

the rest of the kit.

The pontos set.

Instructions

Reference.

Keel laying has been set for Saturday AGW WSNP.

will be keeping this thread updated, but I will put a lot more detail on a thread over in the main forum.

Looking forward to everyone's start up shots.

That's serious amount of PE and other accessories...

I'm building Hasegawa's 1/350 Gambier Bay with two sets of planes and two PE sets:

Probably starting in few weeks.

Si,

You must have great love for PE because that is a lot of PE plus a whole air wing!

Looking forward to your progress postings as I am sure this will be very fine build.

Good luck with the PE, you made need it....LOL!

Pasi I also do own the Gambier bay; I will also watch with interest as it is an very interesting ship. Im just afraid it will be no fun to paint it with its paint scheme and all PE parts on...

Everyone,

My entry into this mighty fine group build is the IJN Akagi "Three Flight Deck", Hasegawa kit #43220. This will be my first 1/700 ship build.

As you can see in the picture I have a ton of PE extras I can add plus I did purchase a PE upgrade kit from Tom's Modelworks for the Akagi 3 deck model.

It will be a month before I will be able to start on her as I have other group builds that I want to finish out first.

Looks like a fantastic amount of work there Simon. I don't know if I am equally mad but here is what I have committed myself to for the next year.
Also nice to see a Japanese carrier in there from Mark. Who's going to pop-up with a British flattop?

Anyway this in my flattop.
Merit's Enterprise CV6

The hull is nicely in one piece

but the detail looks quite heavy

Infini is the aftermarket provider for this kit

The deck is a self contained set

it includes a deck marking guide, rigging and three sheets of etch.
My airwing is slightly more restrained in that I thought I could only probably fit half of a 90 plane airwing on. The kit only comes with 5 each of the three types of aircraft.

And lastly I thought I would try a new brand of paint, Tru-Color. I will be interested to see how they go.

I won't start until June as I have a couple of other campaigns to finish so I will be a watcher in the meantime.

Good luck all,

cheers
Michael

Me...? Like PE...?

I couldn't possibly comment! Except to say this is probably a more challenging build than the Bismarck.

Thank you for kind wishes, reckon I will need a bit of luck
But I also love a challenging build.

Hi Michael,

I think you may have more etch than me there mate.

Great choice of subject, my only advise is look at it as a lot of small projects and take them one at a time, that is how I avoid getting overwhelmed. (That & planning)

All the best with is mate, I am sure you will end up with a great build.

Getting ready for the keel laying, upper and lower hull halves cleaned up and ready to go.

The keel is laid.

I have removed the after elevator from the hanger deck, as it will be in the raised position, I won't add much detail to the well as it won't be that visible, even though I will be removing most of the shutters

.

Bit of a fit issue with the fo'c's'e deck. that is the first issue to sort out today.

More detail on my main build thread, which will be over on the main forum.

Cheers

Always glad to have you around Russ.

The foredeck down, a little fettling and a lot of just needs a little filling and filing.

That was most of the tail of yesterday.

When that was done the shafts and rudder in place.

The after position for two quad 40mm, plan A is to try and cut this down to make the offset single Intrepid had in 1944.

more soon.

Yesterday's progress in brief.

Single after 40mm tub converted from the twin.

The structure for the fairing built out of plasticard.

Covered in filler and sanded to shape.

The starboard quarter 40mm positions modified and in their corrected positions for Interpid.

Port forward 40mm sponson in place,

A few more details and then some colour on the hanger deck.

Cheers

Has anyone had any luck contacting or ordering decals from Boatswain Model lately? I want to order some decals for my carrier's air wing but I can't seem to get them to respond to emails...

This weekends progress.

Basic bits and pieces around the hanger deck level, including the forward structure and the single mk51 director tub (cut down from the twin tub supplied in the kit).

Note the part built Helldiver on the fwd elevator.

The hanger deck level sprayed, one coat of Tamiya AS 8 sea blue and a couple of coats of Lifecolor 20B deck blue.

The Hanger sides test fitted.

Next job will be to spray the insides white, and add a little detail.

Cheers

Si
