What type of glue do you use to glue painted parts together?

Scrape away the paint so it's plastic to plastic - then use ordinary plastic glue. Trying to glue paint to paint will always fail, as the paint acts as a barrier and makes the joints weak.

conventional wisdom and true. but I have had luck gluing no-stress joints with both Tamiya thin & superglue. use sparingly. photo etch can be adhered with clear varnish. or micro krystal clear.

I have to say I never scraped a painted joint.Tamiya Extra Thin melts everything, including the paint, applied sparingly,I have little or no touch up.No fails,no problems.

As above it goes against conventional wisdom, but I have had no adhesion problems with Tamiya extra thin, although it does melt the surrounding paint if you are not careful. The Quick Setting Extra Thin is much better in that respect.

I've used gel type superglue and 5 minute epoxy on enamel painted surfaces but I'd let the paint dry for a day before doing it. To avoid having to scrape paint to glue I'd give the areas to be glued a dab of white glue, let it dry, then paint. When I was ready to glue I peeled off the white glue and there was clean plastic to glue together.

Really cool tip, thanks.

I once got a stray streak of T thin on the hood of a car model. I put it down out of frustration; next day no evidence of the glue was seen.
