Hi all.
A recent comment by Almonkey got me thinking.

Quoted Text

a day out with spitfires and lancasters?
now you're talking!
i would'nt mind a trip to the flying legends show at duxford, i was hoping to go last year, but it clashed with a holiday

How many people would be interested in an informal "meet" somewhere.
Duxford, either on a "normal" day or for one of the special events this year.
East Kirkby to see Just Jane taxi.
Newark Air Museum.
Eden Camp
Cosford
RAF Museum Hendon.(Hannants)
To mention just a few possibilities.

I think it would be a good chance to meet up and put a few faces to names at somewhere other than a model show, and somewhere to bring the family on a grand day out to boot! Dont forget that most of the gift shops sell kits too!

Thoughts and comments please

Hmmm... well I'm planning on the MAFVA Finals at Duxford, and Cosford isn't on this year, although I think the Air show is still on, used to go every year. Eden is a good day out, so for me, it would have to be June and Duxford I think!

Duxford sound good, I visited it in 1981 and would love to go back and see the additions.
Or What about Yeovilton Fleet Air Arm Museum. A full day out can be had here, including a simulator. For the kids of course..

What date is Duxford Mafva Show again
What about Bovington? or do you want it to be a wingy thing museum?

Cheers

Hi all.
I certainly wouldnt want it to be just a wingy thing.
Although predominantly aircraft, maybe Duxford would be the best option to suit as many interests as possible in one place,( the excellent ground war buildings),and its relatively central and easy to get to.
Im thinking sometime during the kids summer break.More opportunity to bring the family and it gives people chance to make arrangements in good time and also save up the pennies.

Hi all.
A table at Mafva is something you would have to ask Mal about I guess.
The idea of this informal meet would be to have a day out somewhere that everyone would find of interest and bring the family etc,and of course all Armorama members would be welcome.
It looks like Duxford is favourite so far, with its AFV and aircraft collections.Quite often you get to see a warbird flying even when its not a "special" day.
Admission would be cheaper on a regular day and obviously it would be a lot less crowded.

seriously, this is a great idea, my other half isnt keen on spending all day at a model show, but a proper day out would be great. plus i get a chauffeur and i can blame you lot for the trains!

Day out, good idea that man. The Duxford museum would be ideal for me, easy to get to and my kids might even enjoy it, well even if they don't they will get dragged along :-) :-) . Now someone please tell me it will be on a Sunday.

Just had a closer look at the Duxford website.
I suggest a Sunday in August.
The 13th is Spitfire Day and I think it best we leave this out because of the higher admission prices and crowds.
Also,on Sundays in August the website says that they run AFV's as well. There are no special admission prices for this.
For those who have never been to Duxford the website is worth a look at.

This will fall nicely in the summer holidays and give people chance to save up and make arrangements.

What do people think so far?

Nige this is a great idea and I reckon we are looking at 3 big meetings this year.
1. This one that you have got the interest in for Duxford and it all sounds perfect for me and I agree that a none "special" day would be the way to go.

2. IPMS Scale Modelworld at Telford, which of course is already booked

3. Now this is hopefully gonna be the big one, Armorama's 5th birthday. This is on the errr 16th (I think, must check) December and I reckon a good venue for this would be the NAAFI at Elvington for a sit down meal. It doesn't have to be Elvington, somewhere more central may get more members attending, but the reason for looking at Elvington is the fact that they have a NAAFI where you can hold a function and you can't get more military than a function in the NAAFI. They may be interested in us putting on a small model show and we might be able to make a week end out of it?

Hi all.
It looks as though theres quite a bit of interest so Im going to suggest..............................................
IPMS Armorama UK Grand Day Out.IWM Duxford.Sunday August 20th 2006
I will start a seperate thread a few weeks before to act as a list of interested parties.
The idea of this day out is to get IPMS Armorama members and their families together for an informal meet at somewhere (Duxford) of interest to all,and to give people chance to meet at somewhere other than a model show,(where family members would otherwise not fancy attending), to put faces to names, and as a certain plastine hero would say, have a "Grand Day Out".
Nige.

Mal..love the idea of a birthday bash for the big A!

It sounds a great idea all of us meeting up and getting together. I'm unable to do August 20, due to me being busy on that day. Here's a thought, as an IPMS club, and othe clubs have an annual show, shouldn't we be thinking along those lines????, I've given this quite a lot of thought, and being a School Caretaker, have a school at my disposal, the hiring would be minimal, (possibly less than a fiver), what do you all think???

It's in Sutton, Surrey, we're close to the railway station, and a bus stop at the top of the road links us to the local tube station.

I haven't looked where we're all based, just thought it was something worth a mention. nothing ventured nothing gained, and the venue would be virtually free!!!
