Operational Overview This campaign is based on the fact that military aviation history basically began with two aircrafts duelling around the sky with pilots shooting at each other with rifles! Today, the pilots are downing their opponents by shooting missiles while out of sight of each other! The Rules and Regs This campaign is supposed to oppose two aircrafts wich flew in the same operational area at the same time: the Albatros against the Camel over France in 1917, the Bf109D and the I-16 over Spain in 1937, the He111 and the Spitfire during BoB, the Zero against the Wildcat etc... the planes could also be opposed during the Corea War, Vietnam War, Falklands War, Irak War and basically every conflict opposing at least two Air forces.
To let the contest remain simple, it would not be necessary to "prove" that the two aircrafts did really fight against each other (altough this would be better) but they should have the type and the markings historically correct! For example, no Bf 109 in "Barbarossa" markings against a P-40 in desert scheme would be allowed! The Bf 109 should be in Afrika markings if opposed to the Curtiss. Contest Element The contest would be a "combat" (in a friendly manner of course) between two modelers! The first one would propose an aircraft (or more) and the second would choose his opponent. Once the first has an "opponent" (or more), the build would begin!
The main "problem" of this campaign would be that one modeler wouldn't find an opponent for his plane! That would be bad!
The solution would be that he could "enter" in the duel of other modelers (some dogfights opposed a LOT of airplanes) or propose more than one plane (three?) to be sure to have an opponent.
The modelers having a big kit stash (like me) would be encouraged to act as opponents as they would have a greater choice of kits!
The goal would be to have two members have regulary contacts while building a kit and probably motivating each other during the build! Of course, it would not be a "what is the best model at the end" campaign so the ribbon would be awarded to the two "opponents" simply when they BOTH have finished the build! |
