Introduction
Wilder is a producer of model tools and paints for weathering. Nitroline is a series of weathering paints and Light Dry Mud Effect, item NL 24, is made to simulate a color and texture suitable for almost anywhere in the world.

WILDER
Formed in 2011, Wilder Products produces effective finishing products and accessories for constructing, painting and weathering all types of scale replicas and dioramas. Mr. Wilder is well known across the modeling community for his elaborately weathered models, numerous 'How-To' demonstrative features, and collaboration with other well known vendors.

NitroLine
The Airbrush Company Ltd sent a selection of products by Wilder Products for review. This review of the NitroLine paint Light Dry Mud Effect will demonstrate how the product can enhance a model.

According to the Wilder website, NitroLine washes are:
Enamel based products for quickly and easily applying various weathering effects onto all types of models and dioramas. NitroLine products can be used straight from the bottle or thinned using enamel thinner. Works best over acrylic finishes. Thoroughly mix and shake the bottle prior to use for best results.

    EARTH EFFECTS

If done properly earth tones and effects when used with other weathering techniques can give you a very authentic looking replica that you will enjoy looking at on your shelf time and time again. There are different ways that you can apply NitroLine earth tones. They can be brushed on straight from the bottle or thinned using enamel thinner.

NitroLine Light Dry Mud Effect
This paint is formulated to create a spattered muddy surface. It is contained in an eye-catching unique 50 ml bottle, more like an artists' ink jar, a necked square body plastic bottle. The attractive label adds to the aesthetics, although text on the side is so small that I can not read it without magnification.

Inside is a solvent-based liquid and a thin layer of pigment. The pigment is soupy and ready for spattering!

use
Having used these products I concur with Wilder's emphasis to thoroughly mix, or shake, NitroLine products prior to use to ensure that the pigments are completely mixed for the effect to work to its fullest potential.

Opening the bottle releases a mild terpenic odor, less intense than Model Master enamels, and less than the mineral spirits I use to clean my brushes.

Since Light Dry Mud Effect is for any finish, I tested it on an olive Tiger tank. There is no reason that it can not enhance any model subject as it certainly looks like mud I've seen all over the world (literally and figuratively).

I loaded a stiff bristle brush with the paint, removed most of it, and flicked the remainder across my long suffering once pristine Tiger. While it dried I brushed against it, causing streaking and irregular patterns. Atop the turret I brushed straight thinner and then spattered the paint into it. Please see the photographs to judge the effectiveness; the paint was applied and dried in about 20 minutes.

Unlike some Wilder Nitroline paints, it did not leave any shine.

Results and conclusion
What do you think? To me, Light Dry Mud simulates a ubiquitous beige crud. It will spatter up any model subject, simulate ground cover, or dirty any vehicle.

The product is easy to use. It was easy to clean from the brush with mineral spirits. The odor of the solvents did not give me a headache. It dried with no sheen.

Bottle design is nice although I wonder if modelers, at first, will be dubious about the uncommon square bottom? Yet modelers who enjoy a product will always find room for it.

Modelers striving to create a muddy effect and color modulating plus washes should appreciate this product. I have no complaint about this product and thus feel comfortable recommending it.
