Introduction
Position "Falkenhorst" is a hard foam tabletop-terrain model from
Ziterdes, in cooperation with scenery masters
NOCH. While scaled to 25-28mm, this dugout is versatile and is only limited in scale by the imagination of the modeler.
"Falkenhorst" is
item 12541.
Ziterdes tells us:
The fighting position "Falkenhorst" is a well-built sandbag position. The area offers several fighters Place. The position is accessible from the rear. The lower part is secured by a wooden crate. In the upper part of the position is blocked with sandbags. Military positions make your gaming table to a special place. The kind and form of the fighting position thereby is representative for the "where" of the action - the battle. So the characteristic compilations on your gaming table more impressive the overall impression, as more varying, diversify, and artful the game. By the way: In addition to the function as an obstacle buildings are also perfect for a mission.

The Model
Position "Falkenhorst" is made of hard foam. While this is rigid hard foam, it can be manipulated with heat. The foam is otherwise very tough yet very light, more so than resin or ceramic. It can be easily cut, ground and honed, and painted.
Falkenhorst is packaged in a bag stapled to a card backing. The model is cast as a single piece with dark hard foam. The top is spraypainted with an earth and gray colors. Some of the paint came off the model. Falkenhorst has a footprint of 130 mm by 200 mm by 40 mm (5 by 7 7/8 by 1 9/16 inches).
No instructions are provided - but why would there be?
Detail
Casting captures a lot of authentic surface detail: wood grain; dirt; smoother sandbags; metal.
Falkenhorst represents a multi-man (or creature) open fighting position, improved with sandbags, wood, and scrap metal barrels. The ground is improved with metal grates and what resembles PSP (Pierced Steel Planking). Lumber further reinforces the sides and rear entryway. Many sandbags are piled upon the ramparts and themselves. Do any of you recall the Tamiya sandbag set of the mid-1970s? These look far better.
Static grass, foam ground cover, and other detritus can enhance the surface detail, if one desires to do so.
Scale
This fighting position is scaled to the common fantasy wargaming, skirmish-level, science fiction, and role-playing scale of 25-28mm; that is 1/64, and S gauge for model railroading. I think it can convincingly host a range of scales, up to 1/35. Small scales get swallowed up and yet I provided models down to HO-1/87 for your consideration. Two Matho Models soft drink cartons are included with the 1/35 figures.
Conclusion
Position "Falkenhorst" makes a good impression upon me. I think its scaling is versatile and can imagine plenty of uses for it whether sci-fi or fantasy gaming, or static military modeling. It can be a versatile model. I appreciate that Ziterdes pre-painted the foam, even though some paint pulled off.
This is my first look at a
Ziterdes product and I look forward to examining more. I recommend this product.
