A lot of modelers like me have been waiting eagerly for another book from OSPREY on the subject of the venerable M60.
On opening and shortly paging through this booklet I noted an absence in the multitude of photos usually published in OSPREY's books. I found this one lacking in this important area. There few detail shots of the different M60 versions - actually - most photos weren't new to me at all. What I've come to expect from the New Vanguard series of booklets is the inclusion of interesting color drawings in the inner section. In this reference, there are less color drawings than I expected. However, some were presented in a very realistic way. Generally, I found the information provided to flesh out the family of M60 series of tanks somehow incomplete. Sadly enough, I felt the cut-away drawing of the M60A3 TTS had a few flaws, as well.
The development, production and testing section covers some interesting tidbits of the M60 series, but somehow I felt that detailed information spotlighting issues that lead to development of the different versions fielded was lacking in this reference. The information provided focuses on serviceability and crew use of the M60 - interesting but not really what I expected out of the reference. I was disappointed in that there is no information provided on the newer sub variant MICLIC, where the PANTHER variant gains mention.
So Why Buy This Book? All in all I must say that this booklet may serve as an acceptable introduction to the M60 series for the newbie, however for the seasoned modeler I found it to serve rather limited use.
