26" Rubber Air Hoses -5 PR 1970's-up Freight Cars
HO Scale
Item: HTD-6036

Missing on almost every model rail car is the brake air hose; this is somewhat represented by a piece of curved wire extending from most knuckle couplers. Hi-Tech Details comes to the rescue with detailed hoses of real rubber! Hi-Tech Detail's slogan:

We make the parts that turn your HO Models into Fine Scale Replicas of the real thing !

Hi-Tech Details…
…of Ukiah, California, have been around for a while creating innovative details sets such as very resilient, unbreakable UV resistant paintable rubber material air hoses for HO and O scale models. They market highly detailed accessories for correcting, scratchbuilding, and modifying model railroad locomotives and cars. In addition, Hi-Tech Details (HTD) produces line side items and model kits of complete cars, the subject of this review.

Hi-Tech Details also makes models and accessories for N and O scale.

Hi-Tech Details website is hi-tech, too! Many of their sets and kits feature click-to-access how-to features and instructions.

26" Rubber Air Hoses, 1970's-up Freight Cars
These amazing accessories are packaged in a plastic bag stapled to HTD’s vivid fuchsia and black card label.

These pieces are flexible rubber with great detail. Under magnification you can see seam lines. There's a hint of flash on the glad hands, too.

HTD currently lists six rubber hose sets on their site:

    1. M.U./ Brake Hose for Diesels One SET- Real Rubber!
    2. 26" Rubber Air Hoses -5 Pair 1970's-up Freight Cars
    3. Rubber Air Hoses -4 Pair - Freight Car - w/Bungees
    4. 22' A.A.R. Air Hoses - No Brackets - 8 pcs
    5. 22' A.A.R. Air Hoses - w/Brackets - 8 pcs
    6. 22' A.A.R. Air Hoses - w/Separate Brackets - 4 pcs

Attaching the hose is simple. HTD's animated directions instruct you to drill a .78" hole for the alignment pins. Handle the part by the gripper pin, secure with CA, then nip off the pins.

Then paint to your taste.

That's all there is to it!

These rubber hoses are amazingly detailed and easy to install. The bit of flash and seam lines are all but invisible unless you want to see them. The flexible rubber means they are far less susceptible to damage and breaking that the plastic and brass alternatives I used for decades.

This set affords you the opportunity to frugally upgrade any piece of rolling stock with excellent detailed air hoses. Highly recommend!

Please remember, when contacting retailers or manufacturers, to mention that you saw their products highlighted here - on RailRoadModeling.net.
