It has been almost one year MrBlack Publications started business and they obviously proved themselves with the quality of their books. On the fifth book of their handbook series, they kept the quality and additionally they added some articles other than standard painting articles like sculpting and using airbrushes.

    The book includes eight chapters. Seven chapters explain different painting methods and techniques with enamel, acrylic and oil paints as one chapter is about sculpting.

  • Red,Metal and Leather : Aleksander Michelotti paints the boxart for the Pegaso Models 75-094 Officer of the Tsar’s Guard - Russia, 1830. Besides the flesh tones, he step-by-step explaines how to paint the red tunic, chain mail and leather cases for the bow and arrows in acrylics, oils and printer’s ink. The article has 35 photos for painting steps and 5 for the finished figure.

  • Combining Acrylics with Oils : Grigoris Marmatakis tells his painting technique for his award winning model Pegaso Models 75-082 Hajduk - Serbian War of Independence. He shares his methods and recipes on painting white, fur,metal and wood texture with 4 final photos of the painted figure.

  • Painting an Indian Chief in 120 mm : In this article, Ernesto Reyes Stalhuth describes how he painted the boxart of Stormtroopers 120 mm Addih-Hiddisch figure as a step-by-step article. The article includes information about painting skintones, leather clothing and fur and most important part of the figure- the large tattoos. 11 photos for painting steps and 4 full body photos of the painted figure makes it very useful.

  • Analyzing and Enhancing the Spirit of the Character behind a Miniature : Fernando Ruiz Ceano explains the planning and preparation process before painting. Then he describes how he painted the boxart of the award winning model – Art Girona H-24 54 mm Attila, King of the Huns,A.D.451 with 5 photos of the painted figure.

  • How to Paint Realistic Textures and Body Hair : Mike Butler paints AC Models 10B28 Australian Digger, Kokoda Trial c.1942 180 mm bust. Besides sharing his technique and recipes, he explains how to paint body hair on large scale in 3 photos.

  • How to Sculpt a German Winter Jacket for a 1/35 Figure Using A B Epoxy Putty : One of the best sculpting step-by-steps I’ve ever seen in magazines. Aleksandr Zelenkov teachs how to use epoxy putty, lead foil and plastic accesories when creating a figure. The article is really excellent with an easy to understand and systematic text and 53 photos of every step. Numbers on the photos and text make it a real guide for modelers.

  • How to Paint Metals without Metallic Colours : I am so glad to see a sci-fi figure in a magazine and it is from the legendary video game Starcraft. Javier Gonzalez(Arsies) paints Andrea Miniatures DN-01 54 mm Sgt.Connor, Serpentian Heavy Infantry figure using airbrush and brush with Citadel paints. The article includes 7 step-by-step photos for the face painting and 10 photos for the armor.

  • Combining Airbrush and Brush Painting onto Figures : Javier Gonzalez(Arsies) explains painting large scale figures using airbrush and detaling with brushes. He shares his technique of painting Stormtroopers ST-120/23 Sergeant Bernard Mc Cabe,Sobraon 1st Sikh War 1846 in 12 photos.

    MrBlack Publications keeps its high quality publishing and rich content on this 5th issue. Besides all articles are very understandable, useful and helpful, in my opinion some points makes this book absolutely a must to have. These are painting tattoos, painting sci-fi figure, using airbrush on large scale... and sculpting article worths all.

    Highs: Sculpting and airbrush painting articles are very useful. Many colorful photos and explanatory articles.
    Lows: No lows on this products.
