Hi modelers,

This is another project I started recently. It's a 54mm Knight figure sculpted by our forum member Steve. And I have the honor to give this fellow some color. It will be painted as a Crusader Knight, 1150.
I started with some base color and did some more work on the chainmail. Futhermore I painted the shadows and highlights on the face. The next step is to start the blending from the different layers. And correcting the eyes.
Well here are some first pictures.

Thanks for looking and comments are welcome!

Marcel.

Great start on a well sculpted figure...just one thing; I noticed the position of the right hand holding the spear is not very natural. I mean the angle of wrist and position of fingers. I tried to hold a stick in the same position and if you try the same you will fell what I mean. Besides this, I loved the facial details, the pose and chainmail. I congratulate both you and Steve.

Emre, Koen and Engin thanks for the compliments!

Koen: The chainmail still needs a lot of work. I did the basecoat and then a drybrush with silver. But now I have to correct all the chains and do some more blending and shadows with burnt umber and black. When I finish the face I will also post them in the benelux section.

Engin: You are right about the hand it's a bit in a stressed position but I wouldn't have done it better. About the face I can only say I was very impressed with the details and quality.

Engin you are perfectly correct with the right arm,it is something i spotted after sculpting the figure but was unable to change. This figure started out as an experiment into doing mail armour as i had not attempted it before and wasnt really supposed to be completed, just got carried away. I hope to do another version of this figure and correct some of the mistakes made.
If any errors are spotted it is solely down to my sculpting and not Marcels great ability to paint,i think the mail could have been better sculpted to make painting easier.

cheers

Steve

Costas, Thanks for the nice comments.

I have done a little more work on the figure. I blended his leftside of the face, still some small corrections to do. Now I have to correct the right eye and blend the rest of the face.
I also did some more work on the chainmail. More shadows with black and smoke and toned down some excessive highlights.

Cheers,
Marcel.

i really like the flesh tone colour for the figure Marcel, really reflects the terain he is in,nice progress mate i like it a lot.

Is the white on the surcoat the base colour for the white,if so what mix did you use to get the off white ?

All the best mate

Hi,

Finally after a long time a new update on the crusader knight. Working on more projects at the same time is slowing down all of them.

Steve: this color on the figure was supposed to be the basecolor but I changed it in the end again. This basecoat was done with stonegrey, silvergrey and a bit of chocolate brown.

Last week I had a bit of vacation and took this figure and a few paints with me. During my holidays I found some time to spend on painting the white surcoat of the figure. I changed the white mixture and also added a bit of green. I'm still not satisfied about the deep shadows, and are going to tone them a bit. Most of the blending is done on the front of the figure, the backside still needs some more blending. And still need to correct the face and the chainmail.

Thanks for looking and comments are welcome!

Cheers,
Marcel.

Phil, Chas and Gary Thanks for the compliments!
White is always a bit more difficult, still not 100% satisfied. The belts aren't finished, still need to paint all the weathering.

Marcel.

Here an update on Steve's figure that is standing on my workplace for already too long. I will finish this figure now that I don't have any deadlines. The main work was done on the face, I wasn't satisfied with the colors and added much more red tones to the mixture. Yesterday after I took the pics I almost finished the face only the lips and teeth to do.
I also did some more work on the belts and chain mail but especially the belts need much more blending and tuning. Here are the pics of the current status.

Cheers,
Marcel.
