hay all i can use a little help i would like to build a syrian T-62 from the 1`973 war and i would like to know if they was any mod made to the tank and if they are any site with good pic of the camo and can i use fruil tracks for the t-55 thanks

OMSh (T-55/62) tracks are the correct tracks to use (Friul ATL-01). Starting in the mid to late 70s, T-55s and T-62s started to get retrofitted with RMSh (T-72) tracks.

Yes, the T-62's could use mine clearing equipment. The Trumpeter kits offer you the "correct" front lower hull plate with the hardware for this as a option.

Here are a few pics from the Golan 1973. Note: Syrian T-62 seem to be standard Soviet supplied T-62s with no mods, they even still have the snorkals. These pics are not the clearest but should give you and idea.

I'm trying to find the metal tracks because the ones that I got with the kit are great but I want to get that little extra detailing in if I can what would I use or who makes them or where I can buy them.I would greatly appreciate it.

Metal tracks would be from Fruilmodel and they are labeled as T-72 tracks ATL-11. These are the later RMSh tracks but make sure that you have the T-62 m72 kit with the RMSh tracks so you have a correct sprocket. Fruilmodel also make the RMSh, ATL-01. Also, I do not know if there are enough tracks in one set for the T-62, so you may end up needing to buy 2 sets to complete your vehicle. Anyone know if there are enough in one box?

Osprey Publishing and Tankograd Publishing both have good reference books to buy. For other reference material, look over the links that have been provided in this thread, they will give you almost anything you need. Just make sure you know what you are looking at as far as which version of the T-62 you are doing vs. what may be in pics. And feel free to ask specific questions.

Thanks for the info an I appreciate it a lot because I can't do the plastic tracks that come with the trumpeter kit. I could if I had too but I think the other tracks would look an be easier to do.

Sorry if I confused you. ATL-01 is OMSh tracks, not RMSh (which are the T-72 type).

Hi all,
I have a question about the engine grills covers on a mod72 but I think it should be the same issue on an early T-62 as well.
In the instructions Trumpeter tell to glue the covers over the grills. If the tank engine is running I guess this will cause some overheating quite quickly. My assumption is that a running tank has the covers either tilted forward or even removed (but where could they be stored).
What should be the best representation for a working tank?

As I can't edit my previous post, I post a new one concerning the number of 12.7mm ammo boxes on the right side of the turret. There are 4 in the kit while I only see 3 of them on nearly every picture of real tanks I have checked. Should the foremost be omitted during the build?

Engine grill covers...best guess is they were issued with the tank, but not used. All photos of them in place are on museum pieces, not in use. Probably stored in unit maintenance shed!

Ammo boxes...this could just be a difference between Chinese and Russian sources. Go with what you see in photos, you cannot go wrong.

The grill covers (H2 and H3) = the wading covers afaik. They should be stored under the protective plate (part E5) when not used (they are "hinged" on E11). Not sure if it's possible to get the hatches under the plate on the Trumpy kit?
Above is the same for the 1967 model (same engine deck as 1972).

The model 1962 have no hatches as it have the same type of wading cover as the T-55, hence the rail around the engine deck (Russian T-55 style).

Here's a Model 1968 with M upgrade in Afghanistan with hatches semi-closed.
