I've been thinking about joining in on the fun. I have the 1/16th scale Tamiya Afrika Korps Kuebelwagen. Would it be a no-no to start on the figures ? Iplan on a simple dio base beach sand & Kitty Litter to show off the finished product.
Thanks and have a great weekend everybody ! Tom

Hey Tom...

... Rule #4. Model can involve as many kits (kit bashing and scratch building) as needed and construction can have been already started (especially those RTR Armor pieces) as long as it's not more than 50%.

Nothing said about figures added to or removed from kits but we do have a full year for this Campaign? We really don't care about what is added to the build just that the kit is not more than 50% built.

HTH

Thanks Jeff ! Now if it would just rain or snow or do something so I could spend a weekend at the bench working on figures.

Tom, Hello I was also thinking about joining this campaign. I've had the Trmp T34/85 for a good while now and have always wanted to depict a dio w/ this beast and defending Ger Inf, which I think I also have in 1/16 scale. Must show patience until the campaign kicks off!

Damn you Jeff (and Phill!). You two always have good ideas for campaigns it seems (I'm in enough of them already!). I would love to join, but there's two issues;

Trumpeter has to release their 1/16th Tiger I

and....

It has to be a decent price

Considering Trumpter is a bit pricey when it comes to more obscure kits (this will be the only 1/16th Tiger I that I know of) I'm afraid it'll be a bit costly. I shall wait and see...

I saw an early post where someone mentioned boats... but the official announcement didn't have that in it, just armor and aircraft. Would anyone be gravely offended if I did a Mk I PBR ? I've been rounding up photos and plans for scratchbuilding one as part of my Vietnam research.

Most certainly are boats included! As long as they are the 1/24 to 1/6 scale range variety, IT'S IN!

Then I'm in, albeit with a PBR Mk II. Hull is going to be built from scratch, and the bow and stern guns were ordered from England Scale will be 1:24. Do we do individual build threads and then post the final result pics here?

It is appreciated and usual procedure to post most of your build here but feel free to do the same in the selected thread here on ARMORAMA.

A before the build start image of the boxart OR materials to be used and the final images are mandatory.

Should be an interesting subject you picked Clark.

Heh. Here's a pic of the wood. The wide 1/4" thick balsa will become (among other things) the top deck. I threw in a hobby knife for good measure. Somehow the nursing textbooks crept in to hint that I need to spend some time with them this weekend

Wow Clark, that is one ambitious build! Always loved those boats and seeing one in 1/24 should be cool. Just FYI, if you make a really great hull shape that could be molded then LSA might be interested in purchasing one for use as a master in a PBR kit.

After all the trouble I have had with making my 1/24 scale LCVP hull I think any future boat projects from LSA will likely be mastered by people with the knack for shipbuilding. Having gone through the scratchbuilding process on a boat hull I can respect the work you're undertaking even more.

I'm intrigued; I'll send you a pm with some questions. I was already planning on casting some parts in polyurethane like the waterjet outlets Way easier to make one good one and copy it vice trying to handcraft two identical ones But given your line of work, you already knew that way better than I do

I had looked for your website while searching for 1/24 scale weapons; can you post the address?

PBR plans got here! I had been playing with some older material that I had, and a LOT of pics. This is going to be awesome! Except the plans are not in 1/24, they're in 1/12. I am tempted to build in that scale, but wow, she'd be huge, like 3 feet long. I have to decide before 01 JAN 2012. I'm not shy about big boats, but I have to think about where it would be stored/displayed. Still verry tempting to go big.

**Side note: Anyone got any pics that show the radar area of a PBR? I am coming up empty.

Finally, finally, finally! I finally came up with what I want to build for this campaign. While digging a Jeep kit out of my collection I stumbled across a model I haven't actually seen in awhile. It's the infamous Bluetank M29C.

This horribly mislabeled model is a poster child of nearly everything that a plastic model company can do wrong. From warped plastic, mislabeling it as 1/35 (it's about 1/24) to including the wrong size figures (1/48) this was a modeling disaster. Which makes it ideal for my build!

It's only real redeeming quality is it's got a fairly decent 1/24 scale hull that is usable. Scrap everything else in the box except the hull and it's a great kit really. Not that the hull won't require some surgery as well. Oddly enough, I used to find this kit on ebay all the time for around 7 bucks....

So that's the model I'm planning. Looking forward to "Project Hopeless Weasel".

Sounds good Jim.

I'll have to review the thread to see what's what. My thoughts on a aircraft may not materialize now.

Got the PBR plans scaled to 1/24, and I've drawn my frames out and they're ready to glue to the wood. I think I can honorably cut the frames and keel out prior to 01JAN13 because as long as I don't glue them together, I haven't started assembling the model I'm also doing a PBR in N Scale for the 'Beyond Braille' campaign, so that's addressing my 'must build' urges for now Yes, it's freaking tiny.

Jeff,
We got armor, aircraft, a civvy pickup, and now a watercraft. How about figures? Would the Monogram 1/8th medieval knight on horseback be pushing the envelope too much? He's large...and he's wearing armor.

Thanks,

Keith
