nothing like a bit of "overkill"

Paul

According to the the story thats around... not really...

6.PD was equipped with 35(t) with a 37mm cannon, some 50mm paks and two 88mm were also around...
The tanks couldnt do more than gently nock on the amour, and it seems like the Luftwaffe didnt want to deal with "just one tank"... as also the light Paks failed, the first 88 was brought to the place, but was spotted and destroyed...
In an night attack engineers just managed to blow off the left track (which will be quite difficout to reproduce).
The next day ohter Panzers arrived (mainly IIIs and IVs from the first PD, if recall that right), and in a combined attack, with the Panzers distracting the KV, the second 88 was able to score several (persumed) deadly hits...
As Infantry came close, the turret started rotaing again... so they lauched a charge inside, which killed the commander inside (the rest of the crew had left after the tracks was blown of)

Im not really shure if every detail is correct, but youll find the same story (thanks to copy and paste) in almost every thread dealing with the KV-2...

So as you see my research is done, and thanks to the quite unique damage on the tank its quite easy to find the reference to make up a scetch like that:

and after finding this site: http://pro-tank.ru/blog/684-operation-barbarossa-tanks-kv-in-fight
I can tell now that it was hit by 5 88mm, 8 50mm shells and a the engieers charges, while first caused 2 penetrations in the turret and one in the barrel...

semms like Im ready to go

Ok! My kit for this campaign has been finally ordered, here is what I wound up with because of the price. It states that this kit is of a captured afv.

As a primarily German armor modeller, i have to say this is one campaign i am interested in. Something about KVs just make them so cool looking.
Unfortunately, no new kits are in my budget, so i only get to watch you guys with your builds.

@Sal: Is that the KV85 you have there? I wanted that kit but probably overlooked it. This kit states that it is a captured afv by the Germans and they used it against the Russians, so I need some help with information with this and some schemes.

@Marc: glad to have another whos interests lie elswhere, mine are with a/c.

Fabian yes ok so not such a large "overkill" if you only had those peashooters . The 88 not included.
It should look very good with all the damage in place, are you going place it in a dio?

Bob nice kit there. There all plenty of camo schemes out there I'll get some links for you posted soon.

Sal hello my friend, another cool choice there, the KV 85 sure looks meaner than he T34/85.

Marc Save up for 3 months and build 2 months , this runs until the end of July.

O.K. this starts tomorrow but I'm putting in for "sick leave", I had surgery on my tennis arm yesterday and now have plastered arm that hurts more than before. No modelling for the next 8-10 days, says the doc, and no work for 4-6 weeks.
I'll keep watching in here, and in the other 3 campaigns I'm
in.

Yes Sal it could be just that . Go get it checked out before it gets to the stage I had. You can't hold things and it gets bloody painful trying to open a and it's even worse when the modelling knife with a #11 scalpel blade drops and sticks in your foot

I can't even get my KV 122 of the shelf, but here it is anyway:

28.02.14 003

Plus this little beauty from RB which arrived today:

28.02.14 004

Alright, although Im already an hour late...
The Kits Im going for:

Trumpeters Big Turret... I shorly after reciving the kit I realized that Ive got exactly the wrong kit for my planed Diorama.. Ill build that as an appetizer... thought of using with it one of MIniArts MPs as an 52 tons roadisign

The right KV for my planed Dio... thankfully tose trumpeters kits are dirty cheap...

and the figure for the planed Dio, ICM, reissued by Revell, the starting point for this whole thing...

@ Bob: Yes, Dioramas planed for both... but Ill ceep them rather simple, no trees, houses, eg... just a dusty road, some grass and a few figures...

@ Bob, again: sounds really nasty... hope this settles quickly... not that I have to build one of mine for you

Woo! I didn't realise it was starting so soon. Been looking forward to building another KV!

I haven't got my kit out yet so no pics, but I am joining with Trump's KV-1 Ehkranami. Scheme undecided, but leaning towards a non-basic green look...

Eager to see the other builds, I plan to build one of each KV out there (without scratch building..) so it'll be great to see/hear how the other kits go.

Hi. I'll be following this with great interest. More and more I'm starting to like the Russian monsters.
From the German archive "Bildarchiv der Eisenbahnstiftung" I found some very nice pictures.
Picture below shows Beute in the streets of Berlin in 1941.
The big Kaebletrucks from the Culemeyer-Transportgruppe take the 57t KW2 Beutepanzer to the 'Lustgarten' for exhibition to the German people.

Hi all
I'm in this campaign that will be my first one. I've planned one of the 4BOgreen recipes, the KV s Malenkiy Bashniy Rebuilt to Model 1940 Standard (January to March 1941).
For this conversion I need the hull of the Trumpeter KV Big Turret, the turret of the KV 1 model 1939 and the F-32 barrel.

John sorry I missed your post my friend, not only my arm but a day before the surgery I lost a f*** filling also.
I feel with you John and hope to see us both back at the bench soon

Bob I haven't forgotten to look out some camo schemes, just need a little longer

Robert are you going to diorama that . That will be huge and look fantastic . But just the KV will also be fine

Antonio I am honoured that my campaign is your first , looking forward to seeing your kitbash build
You must check your pictures though they are not showing on here( )

Alex yes we are off, or the others are I'm not. But there is no rush we have half a year yet

Dang! All KV kits, I was thinking to choose, are allready picked up by someone else. What to do now? I don't want to buy any new kits for this..
