You could always use 1/48 PE PSP (Perforated Steel Plate), a.k.a. Marsden Matting.

Plenty available on [url=http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1313.TR11.TRC1.A0.H0.X1%2F48+PSP.TRS0&_nkw=1%2F48+PSP&_sacat=0]eBay[url].

Hi all,
Can I please ask for some advise? I can't find any 1/48 sand ladders I need for a new build, so I guess I will have to make some. Question is how? I'm thinking maybe just some strips of plastic coved with some tissue or green stuff so when on the side of the vehicle they look like they are covered in a tarp, but I'm not overly convinced by this. I'm also not keen in having to drill out dozens of holes, as i know some will end up wonky, and I've no idea how I'd shape a shallow trough like the ones I've seen on the British LRDGs trucks. If anyone should have any ideas, that would be really appreciated.
Thanks
