Hi Everyone!

Welcome to the SOSIG P-47!

I'd like to thank everyone that has or is joining us on this endeavor, and would like to give Michael a special thanks for all his help in making this campaign a reality. Also, I'd like to thank all and any Aeroscale modelers that join in helping to save this Special Interest Group.

A note of clarification, due to not knowing how this would lay out, I put a rule of "Not less than 2 pictures in the P-47 Heaven, P-47 Modeling section". Since the tread for this campaign is in the P-47 modeling section, it makes this rule moot. So, post pics as normal in a campaign.

Have fun and help this site out!

Thank you,

John

Enlisted, looking forward to this one! I might even see if I can rattle his cage and drag Lampie out of retirement!

Tamiya 1/48 Razorback will be my build, with some 56th FG after market decals yet to be decided.

And for good measure, my favourite P-47 images

Damian, love the photos and posters. They pushed me into testing out one of the Hasegawa kits (P-47D THUNDERBOLT SPECIAL MARKINGS) to see what all of the talk was about re: how easy the construction would be.

Cannot wait for the campaign to begin.

Less than a month until we get started here guys, how about we get some action going with motivational posts.

Here is the last P-47 I built, exactly 3 years ago (these photos were taken on December 10, 2016), for the 56th FG Group Build. This was the Tamiya 1/48 Razorback P-47D which I back-dated to a C by modifying the cowl flaps.

Duxford Razorback maintenance shot for inspiration.

I've decided on the markings for my build, "Passionate Patsy" from the 58th FG in New Guinea, 1944. Pilot was Lt Ralph Barnes. I will be building the Tamiya 1/48 Razorback kit with Thundercals decal set 48-001.

Hi All!

As Damian is pointing out, there's 2 weeks before we kick off! I'm pretty excited about this one. Though, I think Damian speaks for us all! I'm hoping for a good turn out on this one!

After lots of mulling, I've decided to do Lt. Frank McCauley's P-47C-2-RE "Rat Racer" for this build.

I'll be using Tamiya's wonderful Razorback kit, with Loon's "C" Cowling, and Superscale decals.

Get ready, get psyched, and let's have fun!

Excellent choice John. Definitely one of the best kits ever released, and the P-47 offers such a great canvas and huge range of options in terms of colours and markings.

Best of luck with your build mate.

There will be at least one olive drab bubbletop starting in near future:

Hasegawa's 1/32 plastic (I hope it's good) and rest from Eduard.

I hope this hasn't been posted earlier, but here are P-47 field assembly instructions just in case...

Pasi, great to see you here mate, looking forward to your build on the big-scale Hasegawa kit! I have only read positive reviews about this kit so I'm sure you will have a trouble-free build.

Working on all of the sub assemblies so that I can smash out a primer session soon.

Still undecided on open or closed intercooler doors, and whether to include underbelly fuel tank and bomb load.

Coming back to Tamiya engineering and styrene after 12 months of basically all old AMT and Revell/Monogram car kits is truly a dream.

Just starting with Eduard's P-47D, which is Hasegawa's 1/32 plastic with Eduard PE, decals and some resin:

The molds are starting to show their age, there's bit more flash than I expected, but nothing serious.

I'm building OD "Whoooooooooooooooo", I think it's 16 o's

G'day Nige! Really good to see you back at the bench and posting here. Great build on the -M as well mate, love it!

Which 56th markings have you got lined up for the Razorback?

Pasi, looking forward to some progress reports on the 32nd scale build, it will be good to see how the parts all fit together.

Well, I'm painting away tonight on the cockpit parts, looking at the kit decals for the belts and thinking I really don't want to go down that path, then in a moment of clarity (rare for me) I remembered taking part in a bulk order quite a few years back with a couple of other local modelers. About 10 minutes of ferreting around in a few boxes and here we go!

Now I need to go back and shave off the horizontal support bar from the rear cockpit wall on the kit part, and repaint.

Cheers, D
