Picked up a Monogram 1964 Pontiac G.T.O. at the local IPMS show a couple of weeks ago. Since I'm still on my muscle car kick I figured I'd start it. I have the engine & frame assembled so far.

I am quite please with the quality and fit of the kit, considering its age. Kind of bummed by the red plastic, though.
This build is inspired by "Little G.T.O." by Ronnie and the Daytonas.

Super cool, love the Pontiacs. The '64 GTO is one I haven't seen built up yet, so I will be following along with your build here Jim.
A good dumping of black primer will sort out that ugly red styrene, there are some very nice details on that underside that scream out for some bling!
Looking forward to more progress mate.
Cheers, D

Thanks, D. I will probably hit everything with flat black primer before adding color. The good part is the body will be red with a black interior, so that shouldn't be too bad. It's the Sea Blue for the engine that has be concerned.

Indeed. I would go black primer first then grey finishing (surfacer) primer on the block, then the blue will shine!

That is seriously red but there looks to be a lot of detail, on the underside at least. Should look pretty good when you get the primer layers to hide it.
cheers

Thanks, guys. Yes, I'm hoping that the flat black helps cut down the Red Glare a little!
Jesper, the kit actually does come with a tri-power carburetor, a four speed, & I'm pretty sure the engine is a 389. Just like the song.

Jim,
Now that's one iconic car for sure. A 1964 GTO with basically a Tempest body. Damn thing did really scream.
Like D said, prime with Black primer, then Gray for the Body, and you won't have any issues. While I haven't tried this other method of Silver, not Aluminum directly over the Red, guys do swear by it as a sealer. Then prime with the correct color for the body color.

Little G.T.O.! You're really looking fine! Color is Rustolium Colonial Red over flat black.

Grill is just placed for the photo (hence the radiator holding it up).

So I managed to get some more work done on the GTO today. Just about ready to button it up. Here are some photos of the interior & engine bay to wet the appetite!

Thanks, D. Hoping to get the 1948 Ford for the Group Build done soon, too. Not sure what I'll start next: 1969 Chevrolet Nova SS, 1969 Oldsmobile Cutlass 442, 1969 Plymouth GTX, or maybe a 1952 Hudson Hornet or a 1950 Chevrolet Advanced Design 3100 pickup. Oh, decisions, decisions!
