Hi,
If they are not on your list already please add;
www.netmerchants.co.uk.
I've used them since the summer and they are very reliable and fast. Although based in Larne in N Ireland I've had kits delivered in two days!!!
Also: www.historexagents.co.uk Only used them 3 times but very helpful and reasonably fast.

Hi all.
Great to see such a large UK contingent here. I'm Steve Hewitt and I run Eagle Models in North Yorkshire. We're aviation specialists in our second year and are building our catalogue all the time. Let us know if we can be of any service!

Hey guys,
I was in Croydon over the weekend - whatever happened to what used to be Modeltime in St. George's Walk ...didn't see Modelzone which I believe is in the Whitgift Centre ...but heading out of SE 25 after the Palace game (Eagles !) we drove past a great looking little shop in Norwood - Norwood Junction Models....anyone know it..

Modeltime moved into the Centrale shopping center ( opposite the Whitgift center) and changed its name to Modelzone.
Norwood Junction Models has been there years and specializes in trains mainly. They used to carry a few kits, but i haven't been in there for years.

Not sure if web only retailers are allowed on the list, but if they are Lou Stener at www.armour-models.co.uk is excellent, he's a one man operation but his turn around time on an order is superb.

Since the sad demise of ED Models,I have found that Parabellum Models to be an excellent substitute, being well stocked with kits and AM stuff.Another recommendation though not a model shop,is Midland Counties Publications based on the outskirts of Hinckley. They hold a massive selection of military/aviation/rail books, and have a good selection of second hand books.

I have to concur on Midland Counties, the range of books they do is excellent, plus they will order anything they dont stock in for you, plus for everything you buy from them you get "bonus credits" off your next purchase, nice that they reward repeat customers.
Oh and they do stock a small range of kits too.
Do you have an address for Parabellum Dave?

It's hard to find model shops with retail outlets these days that cater for the plastic modeller.
Many model shops seem to be involved with the radio controlled market and only carry a token selection for impulse buying on the military static modelling side.
The reduction in model making as a hobby amongst the younger generation, as they seem more interested in computers and games consoles, means the overheads of a retail shop are reducing the number as been indicated in this thread.
Sure all of these shops are going to be a little bit more expensive than a net based set ups with volume sales, but with postage sometimes there can be little in it, and you can also look at what you are considering buying and ask advice on aspects of modelling etc.
So whilst I welcome the wide choice we have to make our purchases the old expression "use it or lose it" comes to mind as regards local based retail model shop.
So, I would also add my recommendation for Setchfields in Poole, down the High Street close to the Quay. Great for local buyers and holiday visitors. Lots of different plastic models, paints etc. nice easy going staff.
Also Just Add Imagination in Botley near to Southampton. Small upstairs model department but absolutely bursting with kits etc. Owners very nice people, very keen and friendly. Pleasure to buy and support.
Salisbury Model Shop is another one for us plastic modellers. Again nice enthusiastic owner with a good selection. Knows the local IPMS club well.
Sadly one I'd not recommend is Plastic Pastimes in Poole. The owner is the most rudest shop owner I have had the misfortune to meet. Makes Basil Fawlty look like a mild mannered reasonable individual.
My first (and last) experience which I asked for a kit they did not have I was subjected to a verbal outburst about all the excuses he'd heard over twenty years for not buying a kit ,which culminated in him calling me an a***hole. I kid you not.
Having my eight year old son with me I asked him to moderate his language but he was unrepentant and stormed off out the back of the shop.
It's one of those experiences you are so taken aback by and can't believe is happening that you fail to give as good as you get and go away wishing you'd said or done more.
Apparently after speaking to other modellers, retailers etc. he has a terrible reputation which goes way beyond the local area and obviously shouldn't be in retail with his attitude and issues. One to avoid and I'll never buy from even if it's the one kit I've always wanted.
Happy modelling
Alan
