Hi all,

I will endorse Andy's(Bigskip) comments above. I ordered stuff from Lee at Military Precision last week and it arrived next day. There was a slight problem with one item so I called Lee and we resolved it. I will stress it wasn't Lee's fault, some items from Eduard were in the wrong bag and all his stock was like it. He also gave me some good advise on how to use Alclad as I have nver used it before. All in all, top service, top bloke.

Hi Guys A word of caution to OVERSEAS buyers.Be advised that Kingkit,Shifnal Staffs, does NOT deduct VAT and their figures are second -hand.There is NO indication of this on their website.Ive just found out the hard way!I also feel that their postage rates are excessive. Hi all,
can you please add
Halifax modellers world
http://www.halifaxmodellersworld.co.uk

in halifax, west yorkshire, it is your typical old fashioned model shop, thats not a bad thing, far from it, they sell every thing you could ever want for modelling, if they dont sell it, they get it for you within a week normally, and the two guys that run it are very friendly, if a bit on the bold side, ( sorry Darren )

I cant recommend them enough

Hey guys,

I was in Croydon over the weekend - whatever happened to what used to be Modeltime in St. George's Walk ...didn't see Modelzone which I believe is in the Whitgift Centre ...but heading out of SE 25 after the Palace game (Eagles !) we drove past a great looking little shop in Norwood - Norwood Junction Models....anyone know it..

Modeltime became Modelzone, I think, and then moved into the Centrale shopping centre. That's on the other side of North End from the Whitgift, effectively end-to-end with the Drummond Centre. It's quite good. Lacks the homely atmosphere of the St George's Walk incarnation, and I suspect the old expert staff have been, er, replaced, but the stock is much larger and there's room to move. It's probably Modelzone's best branch.

NJM is mainly trains. Inevitable, I suppose, given the location.

Don't know if it's already in the directory, since I can't get it to open on this cruddy system, but Miller's in Truro (Calenick Street) is good. Decent selection of kits, good accessories, some R/C stuff if you like that sort of thing. It's the upstairs part of a toyshop so there's something for everyone.

Also Hooper's on Cornwall Street in Plymouth. It appears to be a newsagent's but has stacks of kits. The range has gone down a bit recently but is still good, and one very strong point is a huge pile of books. Not so good for accessories, but there's another Modelzone round the corner for that.

For anyone around the Cambridgeshire area I reccomend Simons Models & crafts. It's just off the M11 in Barton near Cambridge.

Simon & Vicky are really friendly and helpful & they keep a good stock.

Sadly one I'd not recommend is Plastic Pastimes in Poole. The owner is the most rudest shop owner I have had the misfortune to meet. Makes Basil Fawlty look like a mild mannered reasonable individual.

My first (and last) experience which I asked for a kit they did not have I was subjected to a verbal outburst about all the excuses he'd heard over twenty years for not buying a kit ,which culminated in him calling me an a***hole. I kid you not.

Having my eight year old son with me I asked him to moderate his language but he was unrepentant and stormed off out the back of the shop.

It's one of those experiences you are so taken aback by and can't believe is happening that you fail to give as good as you get and go away wishing you'd said or done more.

Apparently after speaking to other modellers, retailers etc. he has a terrible reputation which goes way beyond the local area and obviously shouldn't be in retail with his attitude and issues. One to avoid and I'll never buy from even if it's the one kit I've always wanted.

Happy modelling

Alan

Blimey!
He trades as Polar-bears-3-kits-cats on e-bay and I've bought quite a bit of stuff from them and never had a problem.

I can't praise Models For Sale enough. They always despatch within 24 hours. Compare this to Model Hobbies who I placed an order with 12 days ago. It's still 'processing'! The item was supposed to be in stock too. I've also found Hannants quite slow. Certainly compared with Models For Sale anyway.
