The "Up Front" campaign is starting in just a bit and is a very interesting and fun theme..pic a cartoon done by Bill Mauldin and replicate it in a dio. This one is completely off the beaten trail and will be a blast to do. We have 15 members signed in and would love to see more. So, sign up now and receive a free lifetime membership to Grumpyoldmans newsletter " You ask me again and I'll knock you down" guide to modeling!

edit: As a bonus to the next 5 enlisted members, Dave agreed to a membership to his bi annual newsletter.." Weathered and damn proud of it"

Now Pvt Parts... all the lurkers and newcomers will really think that I'm old ya know.......

I got 60 postings to go before 1000, and in a good week, and with my senile, excessive babbling mind, I can easily do it by the week end.
Getting out of the slump also.... actually worked a little on "Remember Korea" tonight at work....... :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)
Can Not Wait To Start This Campaign..........
I for one intend to have fun doing it.........

After talking with John about this build and all the different, varied, and humerous cartoons available for this, I will have to join in.

Here's to one I might be able to complete on time.

Can I do it from a cartoon of my own? or does the cartoon have to come from this one artist? because I do have some ideas to show.

Here's a link to a bunch of his cartoons from WWII
http://ww2.pstripes.osd.mil/02/nov02/mauldin/

It's called "Up Front" after his book of the same name, we are trying to do a series of models of his cartoons. Transforming a 2 dimension cartoon to a 3 dimensional model.
Something to have fun doing...... and to expand our creative minds, and artist talents, beyond rivet counting, and researching the last detail.
Pick a cartoon and have fun....... :-) :-) :-) :-)

Well, I sure there is an easier way, but this is what I do....
1. I right click on the banner I want to use, and save to a folder on my desktop (simply because it's there)
2. I up load the image to my gallery
3. I go to profile, and in a new window open my gallery and find the banner I just up loaded.
4. I right click on the banner, and copy location, then paste it to the place in my profile for banners.

easier done than typed.

Aaahh....it feels good to be back after a three-day vacation! Wow, thanks John! I never would've thought of this! And Dave, you're only as old as the amount of models you haven't built! Oh, and Ken, what one are you doing? I'd love to see it! Thanks for your time and this thread!

I tried everything I know (what little that is) to get the "Up Front" banner to up load, but still haven't been able to do so...I currently have it saved in a folder in my documents...and suggestions where to go from there? All I can get to load up is the Dreaded "Red X" box...

I gotta learn how to use this darn computer one of these days....

I am thinking about this one, but I am not sure if I will commit yet. I would have to start a few days late, because I would need to order a kit and figures for it. (I normally do Braille scale, so I only have two 1/35 kits in my collection, and I don't see any Scud Launchers or M-41 Walkers in his cartoons) The local craft store has a HMMV and an Abrams, so no help there (Unless I updated his one cartoon to show the officer shooting his Hummer!)

I would probably need a Stug III G early. (I think I identified that one correctly.) Is the Tamiya one my only choice here? How is that kit? Is that the cartoon that everybody else is going to do too? IF that doesn't work out, Who has a decent Sherman that I could pose with the hatches open in 1/35? I don't think the exact type would matter, it doesn't show much in the cartoon.

I have only painted two small figures in my life, and they ended up looking like Tammy Bakker. (Or Dee Snyder, take your pick) This might be a good excuse to learn how to paint figures, and do diorama work.

Since I cannot sculpt figures, I am looking high and low for the old Testor's Allied Truck Crew set. If I can find one, I am in. I have the perfect cartoon picked out, but I need these figures. Wish me luck.

Daveman. Not sure on those kits but if you go over to Squadron.com and search Im sure you will find a few. Just think of all the fun and practice with figures you will have.

Patrick, Same as above..I have found many a set just by going through Squadrons list of 600 plus figs. Good luck guys and would love to have ya aboard
