Hei Patrick & Valkyrie looks like I'm in good company and there I was thinking its kind of lonely here at the BOTTOM of the pile.

Valkyrie sticking the decals with the paper backing brings back some fond memories. Never painted most of my planes too and most of my 1/72 Airfix figures seeing as they were to employed for acting out "scenarios". Some of my planes were even given the 21 gun salute along with one ship during Chinese New Year. Needless to say they were at the wrong end of the gun. Man, plastic was so much thicker back then as it took a while to blow them up.

The banner is the courtesy of our fellow countryman, Ave. He's kindly offered to help out anyone who needs one too.

Hi fellow malaysians,

Didn't realise there were so many modellers in Malaysia. Start with the intro:

My name is Adrian and I'm currently staying in KL. I am in my early 30s, married with a baby boy. Started with 1/700 ships in my primary school years before graduating to 1/72 kits and presently into 1/35 AFV. Interest is on Russian and German WWII hardware.

Have not build a kit for the past few years because of other obligations. Only recently began work on an Academy Merkava II.

Cheers!

Hello there Adrian, welcome to this site.

This year quite a lot of new members from Malaysia, before this I think I was the only one that was active. How did you all come across armorama?

OK, there's some misunderstanding here Sil, I was reminesencing (spl?) about the early days of the hobby....not that I'm as old as patrick and CK Tang, hahaha. I guess I'm about your age sil!

Anyway, there's this one incident I really can't forget after turning 'serious' (display only...no playing around!) at roughly the age of 16 (!). My younger cousins were around my home during the school holidays and they spy my 1/72 Hase F-4J on my bookshelf. I was about to enter my room when I saw that the Phantom are about to take-off. However since:
1. The J-79 engines consists of the exhaust only
2. There is no fuel wahtsoever
3. The flaps and slats are firmly molded on to the wings.
4. The crew are dummies
5. It's plastic

The Phantom was unable to achive V1, got a cold cat shot and slooowwwly (in my eyes) rendesvous with the floor courtesy of 1g of gravity pull. Bang! Just like the real Showtime 100 (I used that sche for the Phantom)

Tang, your avatar reminds of this taxi driver in Aberystwyth (where I used to study at the U there). Very courteous (I guess cab drivers over there are). But imagine my surprise when he greeted me with accented Apa khabar and 'hendak ke mana?' I thought he learned some BM from Malaysian students but that old chap was a former Brit Army soldier and was stationed at Mersing during the Confrontation...ends up updating him on our achievements and asking him his experience in Malaysia.

Hehheh this is way off topic but I can't help but offer my sympathies to Valkyrie's F4. Too bad you didn't get it on video, would have been spectacular. I wish we had cheap video cameras back then when I sent my HMS Ajax to Davy Jones locker on Chinese New Year.

There's a story worth listening. We have a good family friend who served with the British Army during that time. I enjoyed his stories including those which involved fighting the commies. Been thinking of doing a dio along those lines.

Saw this intro thing after I posted ...

Anyways, Alan intro me to this site ... to get in touch with Malaysian modellers.

Me 30+ so still can consider young or mabbe not so old ... Penganggur since 97, just play KLSE since then ... too lazy to waste time find job anymore ...

Long time nvr touch scale modelling ... more into toy customizing.

Everything I do is done with 10-20 year old paints, Tamiya, Humbrol ... all with brush, nvr owned no air-brush. All done cheap-skate style to try get pro results ...

Still using Kimisawa RM 2.75 or 3.75 per bottle paints ...

Anyone knows where to get Milliput and Testors Dullcote in KL, PJ, Subang, DJ, DU, Klang area ... besides Multifila ?

A Warm Welcome Aboard/Selamat Datang Teknokyo. You might need to specify which Alan as we have at least 2 Alans here that I know of.

Wow! Unemployed and playing the market, something I can only aspire to become one day. Its been quite around our kampung lately. I'm sure our Penghulu (Silantra) will be coming around shortly to welcome you.

What are you thinking of using the milliput for. I bought some at Multifilla but they cost a bomb. ICurrently I using A B epoxy you get from any hardware store. Pretty fine grain. I'm using it for some figure conversion and its not too bad. In fact Alan (Floogen) got me another packet he bought from a art supply store.

Most of the customs I do are using GI-Joes as a base and the Milliput up for the details... sculpt, cast all with Milliput. Got it around 10-15 years ago, bought from a Scale Model shop near Jaya supermarket I think. Haven't tried other brands of Epoxy Putty, but I takut it'll eat up the plastic ... usually I like to use brands that I used and feel comfortable with. Still got a pack of the Tamiya EP, haven't use it before... mabbe I'll try it out, if it works better then change to Tamiya EP, but like so F-kin little for something that cost so much....

Else I'll kacau Floogen to help me get ...

Just wondering how much does it cost for Milliput now ? ... Mine shows RM 20.50 on the box, green/grey.

Used to do 1/35" scale modelling but only got money to buy figs ... tanks, vehicles too mahal for me ... when I free I'll take a few pics of the figs that I have from old days.

As for collecting Action figures, I actually only collect vintage carded SW-Boba Fett and GI-Joe Snake-Eyes ... only need 1 more SW Boba Fett (the 1st 1) to complete but asking price now is like US$ 1.5-2K ... mabbe will nvr complete. You can see my Vintage BF, SE collection on my site.

Now I just buy Gi-Joes 3-3/4" for customizing, SW unless it's Boba fett only I buy, don't really collect anymore ... too many scalpers in Malaysia, sick hobby collecting toys ...

Nvr had any 12", nvr bought any also ... kecik kecik time, parents say too mahal, now I don't buy them too ... cus don't really like them and also too mahal ...

Teknokyo the epoxy I'm using will not eat up plastic as I use it too for patching large gaps in addition to making rucksacks, claymore bags, etc. I got mine off a hardware store and Alan got me one that's the same.

Milliput costs around RM 35 at Multifilla. Got the super fine one but still using the epoxy as it is cheaper (RM 5.60 for almost the same amount) and it subjects itself to shaping by water when soft and sanding when hardened. Even made a sheet of about 0.5-0.75mm. thick recently as a poncho for my DML VC.
