A Big Welcome Aboard Lim to Amorama and also to our very own M'sian corner of the forum. There's quite a lot of us M'sians here although like myself, some of us are sometimes not around. I was in Canada myself but that was waaaaay back in the 80's. Was in a small farming town called Guelph. Where were you based in land of the Canucks and cheap beer?

Mojimbo if your'e out there thanks for the welcome back on the other "Roll Call" thread.

Hi Beachbum,

I studied in Ottawa, Ont in the early 90's for about 5 years. They have the aviation muzeum AND a war muzeum there. Thats where they have the monthly IPMS meetings . It was great. I was a frequent visitor to the hobby shops around Ottawa (but since budget is limited, so tak terdaya lah).

To all Malaysian in this forum,

Guess need to be introduced. A 32 years old mechanical engineer, married and have 3 lovely daughters. Currently working in a “god for saken country”, Sudan on 60 days working and 18 days for R&R rotation basis. Project will complete in end of March but the client can kick us out anytime earlier if they wish.

Ok. Pick up modeling since standard 3. Doing scale model 1/35 & 1/72 armor and figures, 1/72 planes and 1/700 ships. But since I was form 3 a consolidation need to be made. Due to space constraint, all armours, figures and planes , threw in the trash. Sometimes feel “menyesal” but then again space in my family new house then was a premium!

However, I still keep those ships which were built with “cincai” quality when I was young for sentimental purposes. Even, some of the ships are from 1/700 matchbox classic ships which are now extinct.

Now, I am concentrating ONLY on 1/700 scale ships series modeling. So far range from early WW2 ships era to current modern series. Early days, use to buy plastic injection from Tamiya, Hasegawa & Fujumi. But since workings and exposed to buying from the net, now have better choice and option for me to choose nowadays. My favorite manufactures is from Skyway Pitroad. Honestly better quality than Tamiya and the geng for ships.

Have a lot of unopened ships yet to be constructed. Previous builts ships needs also to undergo service life extension. Also going to resin model ships which also stop a quarter way building. Preparing to shop around for an air brush and compressor this Christmas back home later.

Hope to have some shared advise on you guys on modeling in this forums.

PS. Thanks for Yipun on showing me this community.

To all,

Just get back from Friday prayers. To all thanks for the welcome. To my muslim friend selamat berpuasa and berbuka too. And the others hope you have a nice dinner on your table in Malaysia.

Silantra,

Correct OGP - Contracts. Be back by December 14 or 22. Orang lain balik raya, saya kena balik krismas. So still in GW or passing around in cyber space?

Actually did ask yipun on the 1/700 HMS Malaya. Intend to buy the resin from HP Model Brand (tak silap saya) and "subcontract" to any one willing to quote the price and building the ship professionally on my behalf. Any suggestion & takers?

Why HMS Malaya? Consinder this, during that time, Federated Malay State willing to finance 3,000,000.00 pound construction for a battleship and donated the ship to Royal Navy. Furthermore the Queen Elizabeth class was the best ship during its time.

Pity it is scraped in 48. Should have save and bring back as a living museum. And now i intend to have a piece of history in my cabinet.

To be honest 18 days holiday fly just zap like that. Not that I can not do it myself but guess more time to the family.

As for Yipun, she around in cyber space. Try at cari.com in the Gossip column or the military threads.

sllim,
Yes only one scale, 1/700. Basically, all the ships are built out of the box. Nothing specialy on all of them except may be one and only my first attempt with photo etch SPS 49 radar on Perry class frigate. Of course after cursing my self a few hours managed to fold it nicely. I am still amazed those guys managed to do these thing which is sometimes no larger than 2 kupang coin in this scale.

Argrillion,
Quite a numbers i collected resin ships. Almost a year most (all?) of them still in the box. The only progress on my resin project was filling all the flash hole and sanding excess resin of KD Lekiu and KD Kasturi. After that construction stops. Sayang woii. Dah le susah nak dapat, itu pun tak jual lagi in the net...I think.

But there was one Australian modeller which manged to built it impresively. Shows how far I need to be into that standard.

Here the link have a view,

That would be me sil......hahaha. Tolong kawan2......

Nowadays almost got no time la.....lepas terawih dah penat...usually I just do one or two steps only. Recent re-arrangement of the contents of the display cabinets allows a couple of 1/48 WW2 planes and 2-3 more 1/35 modern armor. Probably singgah KL b4 balik kampung....my modeling supplies are also drying up. Down to 1 and a half bottle of Tamiya cement, 1/5th of a bottle of Tamiya extra thin cement, hardening putty and half a large bottle of thinner.

A Big Welcome to our Community Forum Kamarul and a welcome back to you Yipun.

As for ships they're like AFV for me, haven't built one in a very very long time. My last ship the old Airfix Scharnhost (so long ago I can't even remember how to spell it) which went down gloriously to Davy Jones locker more than 25 years ago. Went down with a bang courtesy of Chinese New Year firecrackers. You could say it was a one gun salute.

Anyway I hope to see some of your photos.

Hello Everyone. I would like to introduce myself. I am Richard and I hail from Malaysia. My interest are in AFV WWII, so I guess I am joining a huge crowd over here who models in this era.

I began modeling at a very young age with Airfix and Monogram, mainly WWII planes and some Jets, but left the hobby after about 7 years, to persue other interest. I know my story is like so many others, who have found a renewed love affair with scale modeling.

I got back into the game in 2002, but that lasted only for a year before taking up golf. Now, I think I wasted my time with golf and hopefully this time round, with the help of ppl in this group, I will stay on till I can't do this no more due to old age.

I bought a number of kits from Tamiya in 2002 and lately I have bought some from Dragon, and some stuff from Verlinden as well. Building my first tank in years, a Tiger 1 Late Command by Dragon. Must say, they are not an easy kit like Tamiya to build. But man, are they realistic.

I have just put on the primer and painted the base color with an airbrush. I put that on hold yesterday to try and paint figures, following the Verlindens way. I think I have done it wrong. It don't look nearly as good as those in the pictures. In fact, my figures are starting to reveal the base coat. I am a dufus when it comes to painting. Figures are essential in any diorama base, and if I don't get my act together, I will be displaying tanks that just rolled of the factory floor

I think I will have a ton of question to ask you and I hope you guys don't mind some stupid ones thrown in.

Have a good day,

Cheers,

Richard

Hi Mojimbo, thanks for the welcome, and also to Beachbum. Is it me, or is the website a bit slower recently?

Well, I am in the Satellite communincations business, my company is based in Hong Kong. I decided to stay in JB, since I have been working in and around JB/Singapore for the last 15 years and I did not want to migrate to HK. It was nice of the CEO to allow me to be able to work from my home and travel to my destinations.

I am the Regional Sales Director, so I guess I travel often, but not recently though, work in Malaysia keeping me busy.

I will be coming down to KL next weekend, for a meeting and to attend a friends wedding. I hope to have the time to be able to meet you all there too.

See ya

Ah Richard I see you've managed to find your way to our kampung. Amorama as a whole is great for info and over here in this corner we talk about almost everything model and then some extra.

Travel to HK ofter do you. You could be our potential courier to get DML kits and such.

If you're in the neighbourhood do give us a call if you can spare the time.

Hi everyone and thanks for the welcome. Yes I do travel to HK sometimes, but I can tell you one thing, if you are interested in DML stuff, its cheaper in Singapore. I guess rental over in HK is so much higher.

In Singapore, I bought a Tiger Tank Late 3 in 1 for about RM 72. How much is it over here?

Well, actually I would like to see Beachbum do figure painting. I am pulling my hair doing mine

Cheers

Hi Richard,

The really good figure painters are over at the Figure section and over here in our corner are the 2 Alans. You can see one of the Alan's work over at Minature Hobbies in Midvalley. Patrick will be the other good figure painter here.

Me I'm just a novice compared to those guys but I'll be more than happy to help out. Just post some pics here and we will try to help out and hopefully both Alans and Patrick will be around too. I use acrylics exclusively.

Oh just in case you're not aware all of us have 3 Mb free space to keep our photos here (under My Gallery in your account). Currently the upload function is still off due to the server changeover.

... at RM72 that is very cheap.... i think DML kits here costs about RM100-RM120.... which shop in singapore are you referring to?
