Tank Destroyers

The hour is almost there. Soon we will enter combat! We will start our offensive at May 1st.

So it's time you all get ready to start builing your model! Have you got your model already?

I received my Universal Carrier today which I will built as a AT carrier armed with the Boys .55cal AT rifle as used by the Royal Dutch Princess Irene Brigade, XXX corps, 1944.

But the real challenge for this campaign will come with this built: A scratchbuild Archer conversion on the Dragon Valentine kit. I hope to receive this kit soon, it's ordered and paid already so I expect it to arrive soon!

Also I have an AFV club Sdkfz 251/22 ready to built...

Maybe I built all of them...the Valentine Archer is for sure (and has priority)

So, what are your projects? Ready to built?

I have the new Tamiya 1/48 scale Hetzer. Very nice looking kit that I picked up on Sunday. I have examined it and it is not a scaled down version of the Italeri or Dragon 1/35 scale Hetzer nor is it a cleaned up copy of the old Bandai 1/48 scale Hetzer. It is an all-new tooled kit and at under $20, well priced.

I'll be slapping together a Shanghai Dragon Jagdpanzer IV L/70 A. So far, I have some Modelkasten tracks for it. Hopefully, I won't let myself drown in the need for more aftermarket stuff for it. :-)

Hmm sounds good sounds good. Let's make sure we have a nice and filled campaign gallery by the end of the campaign!

Btw. we need only 1 more participant to break the 60 mark in this campaign. That would be very very cool!

Who else wants to build a tracked Tank Destroyer ??! Join the campaign!

Ok.....my top 3 from that stash....

1 - Nashorn
2 - M-18 Hellcat Tank Destroyer
3 - Marder III M

Also very cool are the M10, M36 and Jagdpanther...and all the others are cool too! Damn mate, good luck with picking out 1 kit :-)

The Hummel and StuG's aren't tank destroyers. The hummel is a motorized artillery gun and the StuG is an assault gun (sturmgeschutz)

Cheers,
Martin

Hi Martinn:
While I do have a Hummel in my stash, I don't think there was one in my list? I was leaning toward a small diorama using the Tamiya Stug IV and some Dragon figures in a Normandy setting, but if Stugs are out as they are being classified as an assault gun, then I may pull out that ancient Nashorn and see what I can do with it.

Well I have ruled out all but two of my stash so which one do I build:

M10 Achillies II (AFV Club)
M18 Hellcat (AFV Club)

Would love to build both but time and other commitments will not allow.
As this is going to be my first armour build for a VERY VERY Long time can anybody recomend which I should build.

Ciao

As far as I know the M10 is a better kit but I like the looks of the M18 a bit more so I'd go for the M18 which is also a good kit.

I'll be gong with a Jagdtiger or a Hetzer or a Marder III. I just finished 2 Hellcats for the Tank Terror campaign so it's time for some Axis vehicles.

Ok looks like its the M10.

I saw a program last night on Sky called salvage squad where a group of people rebuild old wrecks, guess what they rebuilt last night, yep a WWII veteran M10 Achillies II back to running condition even with D-Day fording trunks.
Nice thing was they found an old gunner from an Achillies and he told a story where the crew used to put their biscuits in the M2 .50cal spent casing/link bag, then place the bag on the track infront of a wheel then drive over it so they could make porridge from the crushed biscuits.

Diorama anyone

I will bring a Sdkfz184 Elefant(Dragon). Hopefully, from the Italian sector. Still researching but build is on target for May 1.

What to build well hmm. I have a lot of kits to pick from. M10, Achilles, Hetzer, both L70 Jagdpanzers, M18, Nashorn, Elefant and both Tamiya Marders. There are probably others hidden down there too.

Finishing up a couple of projects (learning to do homemade zimmerit on an old Tamiya Brumbar kit) and I will be ready to go. Leaning towards the Elefant since I have some Friuls and etch I got on sale for it.

Maybe if I can get it done on time I will tackle a second kit.

Any chance we can begin work on Friday evening (29 April)? The beginning of the weekend is prime model building time for me.

Well,

I am going to build the Trumpeter Marder I. As there is still some research to do (Julian Dace at ML came up with the fact that there are some accuracy problems), and the Blast-models update is not out yet I still have some time. I have also ordered the Heimdal book on 21st Panzer which might have some additional pics.
I'll probably will not start the build before June, when my finals are done.

I hope I get to paint some roadwheels tonight of my AO Jagdpanther. So far, none down, 32 to go. And do some PE-work. But first I have to finish some more reading for studies (100 more pages of House of Mirth for a US Lit essay due next week) .
