Tank Destroyers

It is time to start our offensive and surprise the tank forces of our enemy. There is not much left to say, so go to your tanks and start the campaign!!

For those who are new to the campaign:

MISSION: Garry's Tank Destroyers
CAMPAIGN LEADER: Martinnnn
SCALE: 1:144 To 1:16
START DATE: May 1st, 2005
COMPLETION DATE: August 31st, 2005

Operational Overview
This campaign is to build and study the Tank Destroyers of the WW-2 era. A unique and specialized vehicle that was adapted to combat the heavy tanks. This is a good chance for us to learn and build as we go. Learning all we can about these very succesful weapons! This Campaign was renamed in Honor of Garry Beebe.

The Rules and Regs
The only rules that we will have is that only self propelled tracked Tank Destroyers can be built. Any nation is fine. You are free to build as many models or diorama's as you like.

Contest Element
Award ribbons will be designed , and given out to your completed model at the end of the campaign. The main thing is to have fun and enjoy your build. As well as the joy of helping each other learning and building the Tank Destroyer! Lets have a great 4 month build!

Leaned forward a little last night and did some preliminary assembly of the Hetzer. Mainly cleaning up some bits that will assemble to the diecast lower hull and stuck a couple of suspension arms to the hull side. Other than the painting, this looks to be a quick little build.

So a 251/22 would be ok, even though it is a half-track?

I was wondering, since your two examples, Marder and Hetzer, as well as Nashorn, Jagdpanther, and Jagdtiger are all fully tracked.

I started the wheel assembly on "ELEFANT" at 6 am (EST) before work!
Looks like I'll be rained out today so I have all afternoon and tomorrow morning! Sounds like success across the entire front!!

Yeah well there's been a whole disscussion on that already When I joined up, I wanted to do a Demag with 5cm PAK. I asked Garry whether this was ok and he said he needed to check whether this was an AT design vehicle. The half track itself however wasn't a problem.

So, tracked and halftracked vehicles are allowed! As long as the vehicle is really desinged to destroy tanks. The 251/22 was designed to destroy tanks....the PAK40 was a dangerous AT weapon!

Hope this makes the rules a bit more clear!

May means Harley riding weather starts so I will be torn between the plastic and getting bugs in my teeth. HOWEVER, the Old, and I mean old, Tamiya M-10 is underway. I build quick so no worries here. "Q"

Ok cool! Multiple builts is always good :-)

I've done some first work on the 251/22 now...looks like a fine kit. The parts are sometimes a bit fragile but well detailled and the brass gun shields, alu barrel, resin figure and detailled tracks are nice extra's!

Some German armour again...I've done only Allied stuff for a few months and I started to miss the German stuff a bit :-)

Well,

there are problems at the factory.... some of the drawings are lost, some of the parts not yet made by the sub-contractor. There is also a snag in the assembly (or actually two of them, one named Sd.Kfz. 223 and the other Jagdpanther). The mechanics, in between studying for essays and papers and playing an American football match are working at fever pitch though to get these over and done with.

Tonight the rear of the hul might be finished up to such a point where the hull can be put together. Also, the tracks are on their way from Poland. As are the first parts of the recon-element of my unit.

Hmm this is bugging me ..I haven't signed up for this build yet as I have already commited myself to the Canadian build ...I took out my AFV Club 251/22 at 4:30 this morning after getting home from work and I've got all the wheels cleaned up and the suspension arms are glued in place ...Nice kit but I find the attachement points very big and hard not to damage the pieces when removing them even with care... I'll see how this goes and if I see I can slide this kit in I'll join up along the way ... Let's all have a fun time on this build ...Now off to the work bench!!

Multiple builds! OOOO, I never thought of that. It's my first campaign. Let me think... I've got another Elefant and a Hetzer off of EBAY arriving soon. May we parade these through his capital after our heroic campaign. To victory!

Martinnnn -

Well, just got back Friday from business trip to Florida, Friday night showers quit to allow Babe Ruth Baseball games to happen Saturday (Team won 13-12) and Granddaughters 5th Birthday party in evening. Still managed to get out Dragon JagdPanther (Early) and clean up hull to get ready to apply Cavalier "Zimmerit". It's a beautiful Sunday and game today isn't til 6pm and yard needs to be mowed. Guess that means I've got to plan my time to get my work done. Priorities, priorities. Aww the heck with the yard, been too anxoius to get going on JagdPanther, maybe the suspension and set up to paint base coat. Then there's that Hetzer too?!

oh yes.. i got the 251/22 myself and it is an awesome kit! however with all the extras i think i'll take it slow on this, just to enjoy this one.... ... therefore i'm doing a dml jagdpanzer iv for this campaign, a simple straightforward kit... basic hull assembly is almost finished, should finish it on time
then perhaps i'll add the 251/22 to this campaign!

I wont be starting my build until at least one of my 2 Canuck Steel entries is finished (soon I think). After that I think the Elefant gets the nod for this one.

My Academy M10 Finally came in yesterday. Worth the wait though. Good price on it and it appears to be a very good model. I'll be starting on it when this shift ends Wednesday morning.
