Hi Guys,

I tried writing this is the My Campaign Journal, but it looks like the service has been discontinued. I just thought I'd shed some light on my Sub kits. I decided to put the Romeo on hold. There is some stuff that I would like to do to it, but I'd never have it finished in time. The Kilo is almost ready for a coat of paint. All I need to do is do a little sanding on the hull and glue the Conning Tower to the hull. Once that's done I can give it a spray. In another thread I mentioned that I got hold of a Revell 1:230th USS Skipjack. This kit is finished, I just have to paint it, which I will do on Friday afternoon along with the Kilo hopefully. I've included a picture of the Skipjack as it looks so far. The little plastic container contains the Antenna's which I scratchbuilt using a Syringe Needle and some Aluminum tubing. The circular object with the Red paint is the hatch for the Reactor compartment.



I just hope I get them finished in time

That sub is looking very impressive already.

There is a round hatch to the reactor compartment you mentioned. So the reactor is shown too in model? Did you scrathbuild it or was is OOB?
(Hey, build in a red glowing light in the compartment to simulate a overheated reactor, hehehe.... :-) )

I found this on the Google, perhaps you can use it for the models base / nameplate.


Just a few days and the sub has to make it's maiden trip!!

Both the Reactor and the Compartment are OOB, the fit is generally very good for that section of the kit. I just painted it Humbrol Flat White and washed and drybrushed it with Humbrol Matt 70 and W & N Burnt Umber. The Red on the hatch was painted with Humbrol Matt 60. My only gripe with the kit so far is the fit between the top and botton hull. I had to glue the hull in sections and then secure with plastic bands (Which is normal practice). After that I still had gaps about a millimeter wide. So I sat for a few nights with a really big file and planed the hull until it looked right. Took some time, and most of the raised detail, but it looks nice and circular now
