basicly,

Laminate discs of sheet styrene together.
smooth up the OD and ID

cut the thread pattern out and glur around the OD......

Not as good as he pictures......... but it's a basic Idea of the How to behind it.

I too wanted to reference this as now Im to the point of needing to make tires. Why would he want to take it off? Is he making an article out of what he put up? I understand the concept but I would like to have seen the pics again, especially the tread parts!

DJ,
Try this site:
http://www.proxxon.com/us/

Use the first menu for the MicroMot Power Tools, then hit the System Attachment link to get to the Precision Vice. I have been looking at these tools, as I have a friend in Canada that swears by them over Dremel. The attachments do look nice...

Well Im not sure if I really did want to see those pics again after all. They are just to beautiful! Its nice to see that Im using the right methods. Thats how I chuck in a part to work on. I also have the same slider compass as you. Nice and cheap that one is, cost wise.

Thanx for the link!

Steve

Thanks for the pics. My question is in line with Sebastian. I can understand how the tyres are made but what about the wheels?

I vaguely recall the original article but don't remember anything about the making of the wheels themselves.

All is not lost folks.
Early in the new year, there should be a fully detailed SBS article in ModelGeek Features, which will cover tyres and rims.

Hi there

Great question!!! Looks like a handy grip for the drill that gives great working angles. Who makes it?

Hi Nige,
the mini-tool holder is a Proxxon item, however there are a number of "copies" made by several different companies.
For those wondering what we are talking about heres a link to the original pictures:
http://s114.photobucket.com/albums/n270/casspir/Scale/ScratchTechnique/Tyres/
The article is almost complete just have to get my A into G and paint a couple of samples.
