I wanted to buy couple of german 1/72 kits for a diorama.

And i dont know which are better

Could you help me choose ?

Italeri (German elite troops World was II 1:72)


Revell - German infantry


Revell - German armored infantry


or

Airfix - German infantry




Which one would you reccomend to buy and which are third-rate ?

First off, I hope that other Big A threadmakers will
respond to your inquiry. So you'll get a much more
varied group of opinions. I will tell you that of the
box art sets you've posted, I wouldn't recommend any
of those. The resurgence of 1:72nd Armor in the
past couple of years has brought about some newer
and better quality — by a quantum leap better — sets
of 1:72nd scale military figures (figs in future). Two
weeks ago, while at the OmaCon'06 model contest,
I purchased the Preiser WWII Russian tank infantry
set Art.Nr. (number) 72525. It is just fantastic. I can
not believe the detail in the figs, the faces, etc. And I
know that Preiser offers several Wehrmacht fig sets.
Also check out the 1:72nd figs and individual heads
offered by MIG. Those heads were reviewed on this
site just a while back. You can see pix of the fig sets
if you go to www.reynaulds.com. Good luck.

i am planing to buy from this shop

i dont want to buy more expensive kits becouse i'm 16 and i dont have a job, so i dont want to spend much money on them

Well, the Heller and Airfix ones are the same, so don't get them both

They are some 30 years old though, and made with the quality or modelling/ casting of that time.

The Italeri ones are old Esci ones, and not that bad.

The Revell ones are the newest of the batch, and if you can get it, try to get their artillery set ( it's out of production now, but you may find one or 2 in shops somewhere ).

If you can see them, try to get the newer Pegasus sets... they rock !!!!

when I enter 1/72 figures, they give you 490 !!!! items.

You'll be poor before you get them all :-)

the Revell -German Infantry has been originally released around in 1990/91and will be only suitable id you want to depict late war german infantry in 1944/45. Also there are many figures featuring winter combat uniform.

The Revell German Panzergrenadiers are a few years younger and were originally released with the theme of the battle of Stalingrad. So thy are suitable at 1942 onwards.

I can't comment on the Heller/Airfix ones

Stay clear of Heller/Airfix figures. The detail is very poor, there is loads of flash, and they are moulded in one piece each with a thick square base round the bottom which you would have to remove. You get around 50 figures in the box, but up to about 6 of each pose. Not enough variety if you want to have lots in one diorama.

Do you know any more shops that have PEGASUS german kits and some good american kits somewhere near here :

I have used the Revell box for some U.S. GI's before and they seemed really good. Don't know much about the others though, sorry.

I really recommend the italeri set. it's a very good set with a lot of detail.

im not sure about airfix. i know they have been around alittle while but airfix italians and british arent exactly the same size.hope that helps

Depending on how you want your figures posed, or at what time in the war you are doing, Dragon has four panzer grenadiers in 1/72 in winter dress from the Battle of the Bulge. They come with a half-track. These are scale-downs from a similar set in 1/35. These are multi-part figures with all their equipment as separate items. Needless to say these are excellent figs and are better than any other in styrene. They also have a 4 figure set with a Panther tank. These figures are also scale-downs from a 1/35 set called 'Achtung, Jabo!' It's just too bad that Dragon has not bothered to release more of their fine figures in 1/72.
