Halifax Modellers World

Halifax, 10 miles southwest of Bradford, West Yorkshire is home to one of this countries best kept secrets; a good model shop!

halifax modellers world
Halifax Modellers World, 55 The Arcade, in the Piece Hall is a deceptively small shop, yet inside is a fantastic range of all the latest Dragon, Italeri & Tamiya kits you could want. Buying from on-line retailers is becoming the norm these days, yet to actually browse amongst the shelves, taking a peek inside the boxes and seeing those lovely grey or tan coloured sprues.........oh!
I first visited this shop 2 years ago, and I return whenver the opportunity arises. I always walk out with more than I intended to buy....it's that kind of shop.
Dave Smith, the owner, is a friendly guy, always willing to chat about the latest releases from the big manufacturers, and when you've finished buying your kits..........ask him about what he keeps under the counter! He'll bring out 4 or 5 massive drawers full of Verlinden, Eduard, Royal Model & Legend. You name it, he's probably got some of it.
Behind him and the counter is a full range of tools, and on his right are kits from manufacturers such as Accurate Armour and Plus Model. A little way away, on his left are a couple of shelves of Osprey titles, and all the latest magazines such as AFV Modeller, MMiR, and Xtreme Modelling.
Dave carries the full range of Vallejo & Tamiya acrylics, along with Humbrol, Revell and Hannants Xtracrylix.
Halifax Modellers World has been open around 11 years now, and the shop has recently been extended, and is now twice the size it was 6 months ago.
I live quite close to Liverpool and Manchester in the UK, but Halifax Modellers World is where I choose to shop for kits. It's a virtual treasure trove, and one you'll be glad you've found. If you get the chance to drop in, say hi to Dave, and tell him you saw him on Armorama!

This is my local shop and I have to say it's an absolute wonder. I daren't go near it at the moment because my stash is already bigger than I feel comfortable with!! Well worth a couple of hours drive for any modeller in the UK though. There is also a pretty good art shop further up the road for craft type supplies.

What a great thread! I would love spend an hour (and a small fortune) in that shop. Chuck

Great Idea Vinnie, good model shops like this are very rare these days. The best thing about this is that it aint that far from me so I will be going soonest. Let me know the next time you are heading that way, we could meet up I will drop into my local shop and see about taking some pics. It's not like the Halifax shop, far from it but it is a model shop and I buy my Tamiya and Revell kits from there. I haven't yet bought a Trumpeter kit but when the Wellington finally arrives there'll be one waiting for me. Mal

I was at Halifax Modellers World today to stock up on some supplies. The guy there said he'd seen the article on Armorama and as he knew I was a member here and had done a similar report for A-UK he gave me 10% off.
